Two hours on a boat at midnight — listen to the whales with a hydrophone in Ísafjörður's unique setting.
This two-hour whale watching tour takes place in Ísafjörður under the midnight sun, offering a rare opportunity to listen to whales through a hydrophone if conditions permit. As the only company in the area providing hydrophone tours, you’ll not only spot these magnificent creatures but also hear their sounds in real-time, adding a unique auditory element to your experience.
Keep an eye on the weather, as it can impact both the ability to hear the whales and the overall comfort of the tour. Dress warmly and bring your camera to capture the stunning scenery and potential whale sightings. This is a chance to appreciate the beauty of nature in a truly special environment.
Reviews
The trip was fantastic! I’ve never seen so many whales in such a brief time frame. Our guide Tom was excellent, even more enthusiastic than we were!
This was the most amazing whale watching tour I have ever experienced. We spotted six humpback whales, and the captain skillfully got us close enough to observe them without causing any harm. This company collaborates with Whale Wise, a non-profit focused on whale watching research and advocacy. Having scientists onboard to answer our questions was a fantastic bonus, as they were excited to see whales they had studied for years. The guide also mentioned that the hydrophone might not pick up whale songs during this feeding season, which means we’ll have to return later for that experience. Don’t let the word "midnight" in the tour name deter you; we departed at 8:30 pm and returned by 11:00 pm. We were advised to dress warmly and offered blankets, but it was comfortable enough on the boat to go out on deck multiple times to view the stunning whales.
