It is surrounded by the most imposing Nevados (with heights greater than 6000 meters above sea level) such as the Artesonraju (Paramount Pictures Mountain, Nevado Huandoy, Piramide, Huascarán, among others. One of the few lagoons navigable by kayak. It is located within the Huascarán Biosphere Reserve and Huascarán National Park, thus providing it with a very particular ecosystem.
