Three hours, oceanfront location — Hawaiian buffet, cultural activities, and a Polynesian performance featuring fire knife dancing after sunset.
Ka Moana Lūʻau is an oceanfront luau situated at Aloha Tower in Honolulu, just minutes from Waikīkī. This three-hour experience begins with a traditional lei greeting followed by cultural activities like hula lessons, weaving, and coconut husking.
As the sun sets, guests can enjoy a hearty Hawaiian buffet filled with island favorites. The evening culminates in an energetic Polynesian show that includes hula dancing, live drumming, and Samoan fire knife performances, all under the stars. Round-trip transportation is available from select Waikīkī hotels, enhancing convenience for a memorable cultural evening.
Reviews
The experience was just average. The sales representative promised a lot, but the food was disappointing and not worth the price. The chocolate cake was the only thing I enjoyed on the plate.
I opted for the Celebrity Package expecting a buffet dinner as advertised. Instead, food was served in takeaway containers. While there was a good quantity, it was only warm; the vegetables were nearly cold, and the fish was dry and barely warm. On the bright side, the performers and show were outstanding, and the staff were helpful. However, I felt this experience was more of a dance and cultural show rather than a traditional Luau, so I wouldn't recommend it to others.
This was an incredible experience. The showcase of Polynesian culture from various islands was stunning. The activities were exciting, making for an overall engaging and enjoyable time. I loved every moment.
The dancers, musicians, and the singer/host were truly remarkable, keeping me fully engaged and entertained the whole time. However, my primary issue was with the food, which lacked flavor and was dry, seeming as though it had been prepared long before the event. After waiting all day to eat, my vegetarian friends and I found the food nearly impossible to eat. The chicken, pork, and rice were flavorless and dry. I regret upgrading my ticket for an experience that served such poor-quality food.
I was overall disappointed with the show. There was construction happening that affected the atmosphere, and the experience felt overpriced given the quality of the food. None of the employees could maintain the audience's attention, and all three of us felt sick the following day. The location advertised as oceanfront should be described as downtown instead.
The weather was a letdown, with rain affecting the outdoor activities except for the stage, making it difficult to eat without getting soaked. The meat was overcooked, and while the staff were friendly, the overall experience was disappointing.
We participated in the luau and found many aspects enjoyable, particularly the performers. The dancers were outstanding, and their quick costume changes throughout the show were impressive. The drinks were delightful, and the staff was welcoming. Nevertheless, there were some letdowns. The stage's height was inadequate, often obstructing our view due to the attendees in front of us. We opted for Celebrity Seating, but aside from being closer and receiving a fresh lei, I didn't feel the added cost justified the experience, as visibility remained compromised. I was also let down by the oceanfront claim in the advertising. I had anticipated being right on the sand with unobstructed ocean views, and the description felt misleading. If I had known the actual arrangement in advance, I might have selected a different luau. Another drawback was the timing of the food service. We were among the last to be served and were informed that we had only about five minutes to eat before the show began due to the need for cleanup. The performers, however, were exceptional, and their skill and energy were truly the highlight of the night.
Opt for the Splash Premium tickets to enjoy better seating closer to the stage along with a couple of drinks. The food was excellent; I had chicken and fish, and the sides were also tasty. However, the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the entertainment. Afterward, we went to Maui where similar shows were twice the price but didn't match the quality.
The experience was not worth the cost. Much of the area was under construction, and there was no view of the water. I wouldn't choose this again.
I was extremely let down by this experience. The lack of a refund during heavy rain and no shelter for guests was unacceptable. While the show and performers were impressive, it felt like a complete money grab. I advise against attending this show unless you're only available because of a cruise ship. I would not recommend it at all.
