My son and I had an incredible first surfing experience. The instructors were fantastic and very supportive. Everyone in our group managed to stand on the board several times. I highly recommend this activity.
I strongly suggest Ohana Surf Project for anyone just starting out with surfing. The student-to-instructor ratio in our group lesson made it feel almost like a private session. The instructors were incredibly supportive, and we had so much fun! These are definitely memories I will cherish forever.
The instructors were outstanding, assisting us in catching great waves and providing specific feedback, which allowed two beginners to ride multiple waves. The duration of the session was just right. My back got tired, but they offered help paddling when they saw we were fatigued. I had a wonderful time, even with light rain, as I hardly noticed it, making it an excellent choice for a rainy day. I rented a wetsuit for $10 and found it comfortable, while my husband, who went without one, felt fine too. Photos taken from the shore with a GoPro and camera are available for purchase afterward.
Finding the office was challenging due to unclear directions, especially with ongoing construction in the Marriott foyer. The lessons were decent, though the surf conditions weren't ideal. However, the kids had a great time and managed to stand up on the board.
Ohana Surf Project offered an amazing family surf lesson. Tyler excelled at ensuring the safety of our little one while providing a wonderful learning experience, and dad enjoyed himself as well.
The team at Ohana Surf Project was incredibly helpful and relaxed. Maddie provided thorough answers to our questions prior to the trip. During our lesson with Kevin, he encouraged us and gave clear guidance to ensure we had a fantastic surfing experience. He was knowledgeable and selected the best waves for us. Chelsea, who captured photos and videos, also offered surfing tips. We participated in a semi-private lesson with just two of us paired with one instructor, while other groups shared the area. The instructors prioritized safety but focused their teaching specifically on their students. We had an amazing time, everyone who wanted to ride the board succeeded, and I highly recommend them, particularly for beginners.
I had an excellent surfing experience. My kids, ages 9 and 12, had a great time and managed to stand up on the board by themselves for the first time. They enjoyed it so much that they said they want to do it again right away. The instructors were very friendly, and I look forward to our next visit.
Surfing at Waikiki Beach was a fantastic experience for us. In our 40s and not very athletic, we were able to ride some waves thanks to Marco's excellent instructions and support. The photography was outstanding, creating memories I will treasure. I would definitely take another lesson with Marco and the team at OSP.
Our experience with the Ohana Surf Project was fantastic, and I highly recommend them for anyone seeking beginner surf lessons. The location was conveniently close to our hotel, allowing us to walk instead of using the shuttle. Everyone, from the reception staff to the shuttle drivers and our instructors, treated us with exceptional kindness. We took the 2-hour group lesson, which I recommend, as my niece and her husband were new to surfing while I had some childhood experience in California. Our instructor Luke was outstanding—very knowledgeable and great with beginners, plus he offered useful tips for me as someone more experienced. The slow waves at Waikiki made it easy to paddle out, and there were multiple instructors available to assist us. Luke skillfully helped us catch the waves at the right moments, and by the end of the session, we were all able to stand up and ride. We had an amazing time. I advise against just renting a board and going solo, as I struggled with that approach in the past; the lessons made a significant difference this time around. The package included rash guards and reef booties, which are essential. Thank you to Luke, Kevin, Chelsea, Esmay, and the entire Ohana Surf team—you all are great!
Being in decent shape is important to get the most out of this experience, which is quite physically demanding. The guides are attentive and supportive. Our instructor, Connor, was fantastic, but all the instructors contributed to our enjoyment. The highlight for me was watching my child embrace this experience; he declared it the coolest thing he’s ever done.
