Trent was fantastic! He was punctual, responded to our questions, and made the experience enjoyable. It was an incredible trip and a wonderful experience overall. I highly recommend it!
This is a long-overdue review. We traveled in July 2020 and initially planned a bear flight to Brooks Falls, but due to park closures from covid, we changed to a flight to Katmai. It was truly an incredible experience. The flight lasted about an hour and offered breathtaking views of mountains and water, leading us to a lake in the park. After a short walk to the river, we were amazed by the sheer number of bears we encountered and the closeness of our observations. We watched them fishing, fighting, and relaxing, feeling completely safe throughout. Among the two fantastic weeks we spent in Alaska, this bear tour was possibly the most memorable highlight.
This was a fantastic experience that I found absolutely worth it. The water plane flight and the bear encounters made it truly worthwhile.
The bear viewing tour combined with the flight is incredible and a must-experience in Homer. Our pilot, Trent, was excellent and ensured a comfortable flight. I highly recommend it.
This experience is a must for your bucket list. We relied on Trent's expertise and were thoroughly impressed. It was the standout moment of our two-week Alaska trip. When our initial plan to Katmai fell through due to weather, Trent suggested Crescent Lake instead, which turned out to be fantastic. This small part of Lake Clarke National Park provided us with incredible close-up views (within 20-30 yards) of bears fishing for salmon. We witnessed a family of four brown bears—mother and her triplet two-year-olds—swimming, playing, and interacting with their environment, including climbing into empty boats. We gained a lot of knowledge about the area, the salmon, and brown bears, all while enjoying a breathtaking landscape of turquoise waters, lush forests, and snow-capped Mount Redoubt. The sight of salmon spawning and brown bears playing in the water, along with a juvenile bald eagle watching from a perch, created an unforgettable natural spectacle. Don't wait—book this experience right away.
The welcoming staff made a great impression, and our pilot Trent truly put in a lot of effort to get us to Brooks Falls, where we had an incredible time watching the bears.
I was truly amazed by the beauty of Homer, a place I never thought could be so stunning. As someone who has always loved the beach, my experience in Alaska has me wishing to spend every summer here. I will share a photo of the airbnb where we stayed; it was spacious, clean, comfortable, and offered breathtaking views. Plus, it was conveniently located for accessing all the places we wanted to visit.
I flew with Rust's Flying Service to Crescent Lake in Lake Clark National Park for bear viewing, and it was an exceptional experience. Both Rust's Flying Service and Redoubt Mountain Lodge provided top-notch service. We visited at the start of the bear viewing season (August 5), but the high water levels limited the bears' access to salmon, resulting in fewer sightings. Most of the salmon I saw being consumed were remnants cleaned by fishermen. The National Park Service smartly placed a fish cleaning station in the river, allowing salmon remains to drift into the lake for the bears to find. Watching the bears utilize various techniques to discover these carcasses was fascinating. Of the ten bears I observed, seven were mothers with one or two cubs, and the interactions between them were captivating. The salmon lunch at Redoubt Lodge was delicious and offered a pleasant break from the nearly eight hours spent on the comfortable pontoon boats. Our guide, a 13-year veteran, was very informative. If you want to see more bears, I suggest scheduling this trip later in the summer.
