As you navigate the streets, view beautiful antebellum houses and plantations, as well as locations where famous stars stayed during filming. • The tour continues with a visit to The Gump Medical Center, which was built using profits from Forrest's Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. You will see The National Cemetery, the burial site of The Great Santini, and the bridge that Forrest Gump crossed during his national run. • Uncover the rich history, film charm, and welcoming environment of Beaufort during this 1-hour van excursion. • Robert Smalls, a former slave who was born in Beaufort, is buried in the graveyard of the Tabernacle Baptist Church alongside his first and second wives and one of his daughters. He famously escaped on The Planter steamship. • The tour will include anecdotes about Pat Conroy as you pass by the Center. • The Center for the Arts has appeared in two films shot in Beaufort: Forrest Gump (as The Gump Medical Center) and Something to Talk About (as Julia Roberts' veterinary school). • Now a bookstore, one building was featured in a scene where Julia Roberts confirmed via phone that her husband, played by Dennis Quaid, was having affairs with women from her Savannah Women's Club. • Originally established as a Church of England in 1712, the current fourth building on the site is available for docent-led tours after your tour concludes. • You will pass the John Mark Verdier House, built in 1804, where French General Marquis de Lafayette delivered his farewell speech to America from the balcony in 1825.
