Troy provided excellent service during the boat rides, but I had to give it three stars because the booking process should mention that most shops, attractions, and restaurants are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The area felt deserted.
The experience was excellent. Nate was kind and enjoyable to converse with. The ride was smooth and comfortable, with him expertly managing the music to keep the atmosphere lively. I highly recommend this service. We arrived as directed and departed on schedule. I will definitely use them whenever I visit.
Renting a golf cart is essential as walking the island is impractical and you'll want to discover more. Be friendly with the locals; they know all the best spots. Make sure to visit Jessica and Summer while you’re there.
The go-karts were quite loud, the street signs were confusing, and the map provided wasn't good. Since we booked on Christmas Eve, only one restaurant was open. However, it was a relaxing and pleasurable experience.
The island offers some intriguing aspects, but the historic sites and trails lack proper signage. The lighthouse was the highlight for me. However, I'm not sure the experience justifies the $60 per person or the $80 charge for the golf cart.
The boat arrived punctually and was straightforward to locate. The crew was excellent. The island itself was very interesting, but be mindful of gnats.
It was truly an adventure; I enjoyed getting lost and figuring out how to find my way back.
Reading Pat Conroy's book "The Water is Wide" before the trip to Daufuskie is a good idea, especially for middle school teachers. However, it's crucial to check the weather beforehand. On March 24, 2026, strong winds made conditions unsafe. The boat dropped us off on a floating dock far from the harbor, requiring us to walk across numerous unstable pieces, which seriously tested our balance. My wife fell immediately and could only continue with the assistance of two strong men. The situation remained challenging upon our return after five hours. I overheard another passenger express her fear before making the same precarious crossing. I sought help for my wife from the boarding crew, and the captain's assistant was very kind. When I asked the captain why he didn’t approach the dock more closely, he claimed it was too difficult given the weather. I believe a captain's primary responsibility should be the safety of passengers, and I am considering filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities in South Carolina.
The directions to the island were clear. We departed the dock at 11 am and arrived back from D. Island by 5 pm. However, the captain should have a microphone for us to hear his historical commentary. We also rented a golf cart, but the map provided on the tour boat was outdated, lacking markings for dead-end roads, and could easily lead to getting lost, which may cause delays in returning the cart. The captain mentioned they frequently receive this feedback. Additionally, the road signage on the island is poorly labeled for attractions, dining options, and proper road indicators. With the numerous golf cart rentals, improving the signage would be a straightforward, low-cost enhancement, and updating the map to reflect current island conditions would be beneficial.
We participated in the “Meals on Wheels” ferry to Daufuskie Island and had a mixed experience. The outbound journey was wonderful—comfortable and picturesque, just as we had hoped. In contrast, the return was unsettling. Instead of a ferry, we boarded a cramped skiff that felt like a rough speedboat ride, which was overcrowded and uncomfortably hot. Moreover, the meal and drink inclusions were poorly explained. The meal voucher was only valid at one restaurant (Old Daufuskie Crab Company), and the drink ticket restricted us to a single type of beer (Iron Ale). These limitations were not communicated in advance, leaving us feeling misled. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to the unclear information and inconsistencies. With improved transparency and better alignment between trips, it could offer a much more enjoyable experience for future visitors.
