For those wanting to discover the beauty of the Big Island alongside rich cultural narratives, this tour is incomparable. Our guide, Kimo, provided insights into the island’s history and shared his experiences as a native Hawaiian. He truly enhanced our family vacation, making it unforgettable. When he found out that our daughter's birthday was approaching, he encouraged her to choose a gift at the Volcano House. Although we explained we preferred experiences over material items, he graciously arranged a special activity just for her at the end of our tour. The numerous stops and the cultural wisdom we gained were further enriched by the affordability and the knowledge that we were supporting a female-owned local company. We highly recommend Kimo from Malahini Tours.
We arrived on the Big Island and waited for a pickup that never came. Despite multiple calls and messages, the responses were unclear, and the guide was rude over the phone. We ended up at the wrong airport, not realizing there were two on the island. Although Hilo was mentioned in the fine print, we missed it. We sought clarity on the pickup prior to our arrival but received vague information. TripAdvisor was unhelpful, and the tour company was disappointing. I suggest renting a car to explore on your own, as it's not worth the high cost without proper details being provided.
Mahalini Tours provided an incredible experience. Our guide offered cold water throughout the trip and was extremely knowledgeable, adjusting the itinerary to help us avoid crowds. We were lucky to witness the Kilauea eruption, which was breathtaking. Every aspect of the tour was excellent, and the guide was friendly and addressed all our questions thoroughly. I highly recommend this tour. I regret not remembering the guide's name, but he truly took excellent care of us.
I went on the Malahini Tour and found it to be fantastic. Kimo, our driver, was both knowledgeable and patient, sharing insights about Hilo's history, culture, weather, and plants. We explored Volcanoes National Park, and despite the rainy weather, we were fortunate to have good conditions at the volcano crest, allowing for some great photos. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
