Reviews
The tour was highly informative. Our driver expertly navigated the narrow streets, and the guide provided insightful and entertaining commentary. The stops were also quite enjoyable.
Halifax has so much to offer, and I truly adore this city. We had ample opportunity to get on and off at various attractions. The buses operated frequently, making it simple to explore a lot in a short timeframe.
The tour features classic double-decker buses from the 1960s and provides an in-depth exploration of Halifax and its surrounding area. Our live guide shared insightful historical details, including the tragic explosion of an ammunition ship in 1917, which significantly impacted the city.
This tour of Halifax was outstanding. We received a wealth of information regarding the city’s history and layout, covering all the major highlights. It was an excellent way to kick off our visit, helping us solidify our plans for the remainder of our time in Halifax.
The hop on, hop off buses provide a great way to explore Halifax at your own speed. The bus system is effective, but the vehicles are older and not as comfortable as those in other cities. This wasn’t a major concern for me since I was frequently getting off, but if you plan to use them as a more leisurely transport option, it could be a drawback. We began our journey at the museum and completed the full circuit. The announcer offered valuable insights, but the stops are spaced out, leading to extended bus rides. I recommend taking this bus if you're short on time and want a solid overview of Halifax.
Navigating was simple. Jim and Jimmy provided excellent narration, and there was ample time to explore numerous attractions. I highly suggest visiting the Public Gardens.
The drivers are excellent, making the experience enjoyable and entertaining. They clearly love what they do, which helps travelers feel comfortable and well taken care of during the bus ride.
Rhonda provided an excellent tour experience. Her extensive knowledge really enhanced our enjoyment. We completed the full route, planning to hop off and explore on our second ride. Unfortunately, on that ride, the other guide focused excessively on buying gummies, which we found unprofessional. However, Rhonda's storytelling, infused with personal anecdotes about her family, made her tour truly engaging and personable. Overall, we had a great time with her.
We enjoy using hop-on buses to explore new cities, but I decided against booking Halifax's double-decker option after seeing the cost. At over $200 for two people, plus a mandatory 15% gratuity, it felt excessive. Additionally, the bus operates only for 6 hours on our chosen day, leaving us little time to visit all the sites we wanted. We'll manage just as well with Uber.
This could be a good choice for seniors or those with mobility challenges, but since Halifax is very walkable, we found ourselves waiting for the bus more than we would have spent just walking to the sights. It doesn't provide the same value as in other cities. On the positive side, the guides shared interesting stories and were entertaining.
