The weather was not ideal during our trip, with fog obscuring the peaks at Haines Summit. While the river drive was pleasant and we spotted a few eagles, we visited during a less favorable time. As part of a cruise ship excursion, the guides did put in a lot of effort, and their commentary was engaging. However, the lengthy border crossing, despite offering a nice photo opportunity of the welcome to Alaska sign, contributed to an overall average experience, particularly with the peaks hidden from view.
This was an excellent tour with knowledgeable and entertaining guides, Soap and Maya. We spotted eagles, ducks, and some salmon splashes, but no bears or moose. The scenery was the most beautiful I've ever seen and deepened my love for small-town Alaska. Don't forget to bring bug spray.
We participated in this excursion as part of our Viking cruise, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. All the guides were professional, punctual, friendly, and knowledgeable, particularly regarding local wildlife and watercraft safety. Xander was especially memorable as we spent the most time kayaking near him; he engaged us in great conversations and shared entertaining stories. We left our phones behind out of concern for water damage, but Xander kindly took pictures of us and sent them to my husband. A special thanks to Xander's mom for raising such a thoughtful person. The scenery on the lake is stunning, and we're grateful to have photos to cherish the experience. We even witnessed salmon spawning, which made our July visit even more special. I highly recommend this tour guide group.
Allie and Alex served as excellent tour guides. They were very friendly and eager to take photos for us. The food was enjoyable, especially the wraps on the way back.
