Haines truly embodies the essence of Alaska, showcasing stunning scenery. Our guide, Tom Ganner, was fantastic and took us to sites often overlooked by standard tours. He was attentive to our interests, resulting in a wonderful day filled with great memories and beautiful photos. I highly recommend him.
Our day kicked off at 6:30 am, and by 8 am, we had already spotted eight bears fishing. We also encountered around 30 bald eagles and enjoyed a tour of Haines. Tom, our guide, has a fascinating background as a former teacher and is deeply passionate about wildlife and photography, making his guidance incredibly helpful for maximizing our experience. His extensive knowledge spans even more topics, so we highly recommend him to anyone planning a visit to Haines.
Tom Ganner was an outstanding tour guide during our visit to Haines. He picked my wife, father-in-law, and me up from the ferry and took us to some fantastic locations for bear and eagle photography. Tom's expertise in local nature, culture, and photography is impressive. He was extremely friendly and assisted me in capturing some great photos that I wouldn’t have been able to get in such a limited time. We particularly appreciated the flexibility he offered, allowing us to tailor our experience instead of being confined to a larger group in a van.
I had an exceptional day with Tom. He is extremely knowledgeable about wildlife, photography, Haines history, and indigenous culture. Tom is personable, an excellent teacher and storyteller, and a fantastic conversationalist. We highly recommend him; you won’t be let down.
I discovered Tom through a Google search while looking for a more personalized experience than the Eagle preserve float trip we had already scheduled. From the beginning, communication with Tom was effortless, and he provided a wealth of information. We spent approximately 5.5 hours exploring Chilkoot State Park and the Haines area. We were even fortunate to catch the stunning view from Tom's back deck when he realized he left his phone behind before our tour. We encountered numerous eagles amid the breathtaking scenery. I highly suggest reaching out to him for a tailored tour while visiting Haines. We arrived on the Ruby Princess on June 14, 2024. The Carters and the Ragons.
My wife and I enjoyed a private nature and photography tour with Tom, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience. His extensive knowledge of the local wildlife, environment, and history was exceptional. Tom's enthusiasm for nature was infectious; he was engaged, friendly, and sincerely dedicated to ensuring we had a memorable time. We left with stunning photos from our iPhone and a deeper appreciation for the area. I highly recommend this tour.
As an avid nature photographer, I was eager to capture the stunning landscapes of Southeast Alaska during my cruise. While on a large ship with my family, we stopped in Haines, which turned out to be the highlight of the journey, thanks to Tom Ganner Photography. From the beginning, Tom was fantastic. He responded promptly when I inquired about a date in May and assisted me in crafting an outing that maximized my limited time in port. He truly understood my vision and ensured I made the most of the day. Tom's knowledge of Haines and its surroundings is remarkable. He took me to breathtaking, lesser-known locations that many visitors miss, abundant in wildlife and natural beauty. Each stop felt intentional and aligned with my desires. What resonated with me was Tom's genuine care for his clients. He attentively listened to my interests and strived to help me achieve my photography goals, whether they involved landscapes, wildlife, or both. His insights extended beyond the local environment; he shared valuable photography techniques and ideas as well. I didn't just return with fantastic photos—I gained new skills. Tom’s passion for his work is evident. We were so wrapped up in our adventure that we exceeded our planned time, yet he ensured I returned to the ship with ample time. His dedication and professionalism made the experience enjoyable and unforgettable. Tom is more than just a guide; he is a storyteller and a teacher who honors the land he represents. If you find yourself in Haines, particularly on a cruise, I highly recommend booking with Tom. You'll leave with exceptional photos, cherished memories, and a deeper connection to the area.
Our family had a wonderful experience in Haines, thanks to Mr. Tom Ganner. He greeted us at the ferry terminal and served as an excellent guide. Knowledgeable and warm, he showcased his lovely city, highlighting both its cultural significance and nearby State Parks. As a professional photographer, he took us to breathtaking spots for enjoying the natural beauty. We also had the chance to wander around downtown. At the end of our tour, he returned us to the ferry terminal for Skagway. We couldn’t have asked for more, and I highly recommend Mr. Ganner's services.
Our time with Tom was unforgettable. He guided us around Haines, pointing out all the must-see locations. The halibut fish and chips we had at a local restaurant were the best we've ever tasted. The highlight was definitely the stunning scenery and our amazing sighting of Lulu, the big brown bear, along with her four cubs as they swam and fished in the river. It genuinely felt like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Thank you, Tom, for your wealth of knowledge and humor. We had a fantastic time and would wholeheartedly recommend this tour.
This is an excellent wildlife tour in town led by a skilled, published photographer. Regardless of the weather, it's sure to be an enjoyable experience.
