This half-day private walking tour takes you through the charming streets of Saint Peter Port, Guernsey’s capital. Your guide meets you at the port, ready to show you some of the island's significant landmarks. The tour starts at Castle Cornet, a historic fortress built in the 13th century, offering insights into its varied past.
Afterwards, visit Hauteville House, where the famous writer Victor Hugo lived during his exile from France. Explore the house that inspired much of his work. On your way back, there's an opportunity to stop at a viewpoint for impressive sights over the town's rooftops and the ships in the harbour. Prepare for a walk, bringing comfortable shoes as you explore this quaint island.
Reviews
I initially anticipated a small group tour, but it turned into a private experience for the four of us, comprised of two older couples aged 69, 71, 72, and 80. Our guide, Ine, welcomed us at the port and was both friendly and attentive. Recognizing our ages, she suggested safer, easier paths to help us navigate uneven pavements and stairs that lacked handrails. The tour involved significant walking and climbing; my wife managed to hit her 10,000 steps while we explored the enchanting town and port, with Ine sharing her extensive knowledge throughout. We visited the church, the historic market area, Victor Hugo's house, and Cornet Castle, even witnessing the noontime cannon firing. The highlight was certainly Hugo's house, which fascinated us with its intricate details, much like his literary works. Our guide at the house, Montaine, was also outstanding. The views and garden were unforgettable. Guernsey stands out among our other cruise stops, including Edinburgh, Inverness, Glasgow, Belfast, and Liverpool. We’re so pleased we chose this tour and highly recommend it.
Margaret, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and provided us with excellent insights into Guernsey and its history. She was kind and gracious, making it a pleasure to spend time with her. Margaret truly stood out.
Bryon was a friendly and well-informed guide, making the experience enjoyable. We highly recommend him to others.
This city tour was a delight. We appreciated the stunning views of the island and the nearby regions. The lunch and shopping were fantastic, and the locals were exceptionally welcoming. Our tour guides made it a memorable family experience.
Our guide, Margaret, was wonderful. Despite delays in disembarking from the ship, she modified our schedule to compensate for the lost time. We visited Victor Hugo's house and explored the castle ruins.
