During our Thanksgiving holiday in Guayaquil, my husband, daughter, and I joined a cocoa farm tour led by Francisco, whom we had previously enjoyed on a city highlights tour. Our guide at the farm, Simon, was fluent in English and brought a wealth of knowledge and fun to our day. We savored a delightful lunch featuring local dishes prepared in the family kitchen, toured the farm, and engaged in a hands-on chocolate-making experience from bean to bar.
The tour of Guayaquil was fantastic! Fernando is knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and has a great sense of humor. He guided us to the best chocolate spots and shared interesting local history. I would definitely choose this company again.
We had an incredible day at the farm, tasting a variety of fruits while exploring and gaining insights about the place. The highlight was learning the entire chocolate-making process. The tour concluded with a fantastic lunch featuring Ecuadorian specialties, hosted by the farm. Our guide, Francisco, was knowledgeable and shared plenty of cultural insights. By the end, we were reluctant to depart. I highly recommend spending a day here and ensure you ask for Francisco as your guide.
Visiting this cacao farm was one of the standout moments of our trip, easily ranking among our favorites. Touring a working cacao farm filled with over 30 different fruit trees was both inspiring and fascinating. We gained extensive knowledge about cacao agriculture, including various plant types, harvesting techniques, and the chocolate production process. One intriguing fact we discovered is that cacao absorbs aromas from nearby fruit trees, which is why the farm boasts such remarkable biodiversity with vanilla, lime, orange, mango, and more. This unique diversity contributes to the distinct flavor profiles of each farm, a detail we had never contemplated before but now truly appreciate. The entire experience was educational and immersive, ideal for chocolate enthusiasts. To enhance our visit, the family operating the farm extended warm hospitality and provided us with a delicious lunch in their home, making our day even more memorable. If you find yourself with an extra day and wish to venture inland from Guayaquil, this is an experience not to be missed. We departed with a newfound appreciation for chocolate and a better understanding of how to savor and enjoy it. Special thanks to our guide Eddy and our wonderful hosts, Rody and Alexa, for their exceptional hospitality.
I have been on many private tours, but this one was the best. Francisco was both informative and entertaining. After being picked up from our hotel, we traveled along the highway to a Cocoa farm, stopping at open-air fruit stands where Francisco interacted with vendors, letting us try unique fruits. Upon arrival at the chocolate farm, we were welcomed by the owner's daughter-in-law, who was equally knowledgeable and friendly. We explored the expansive farm, learning about the various fruits and the cocoa bean extraction process. We even got to see cocoa beans inside their pod and participated in roasting and grinding, which culminated in a delightful tasting of our efforts. She picked fresh bananas for us to dip in the ground cocoa, and shared insights about the machinery involved in chocolate production, taking us to see where the chocolate bars are poured. The experience ended with a home-cooked meal at the owner's house, complete with delicious desserts. If I return to Ecuador, I would certainly reach out to Francisco for another tour. He is an exceptional guide.
Fransico, our guide, was very knowledgeable and provided excellent information during our drive to the farm. The farm guides were friendly and well-informed about the cocoa farm and surrounding fruits. We had the chance to pick some fruits and enjoy fresh snacks while observing cocoa farming and tasting beans straight from the tree. We also had a hands-on experience making a chocolate bar from scratch. The cooking session with Alexandra was great, and I picked up some useful cooking tips. Being vegetarian, I appreciated that they arranged a delicious vegetarian lunch for us.
The farm tour and the entire chocolate production process provided a delightful and enjoyable experience. Our guide Toni was friendly and informed, sharing insights not only about the farm but also about Guayaquil. Communication with Francisco was smooth leading up to the tour, and their love for tourism in Guayaquil and Ecuador truly shines through. Rody and Alexandra, the farm's owners, extended a warm welcome, making our time there exceptional. The farm is managed with evident passion, and it's clear in their discussions about the various activities available. It's a fantastic venue to enjoy authentic regional products. We had a great time making and tasting the chocolate from start to finish. Meeting all the individuals mentioned was a pleasure, and we hope many others can share in this wonderful experience. We highly recommend it to everyone.
This tour was an outstanding experience. The farm felt like a modern-day Eden, filled with diverse fruit trees and cocoa pods. Seeing the chocolate-making process from start to finish was intriguing, and the taste was exceptional. Meeting the hardworking family behind it all was truly special. This experience is suitable for all ages, and I highly recommend it. We participated before our evening flight, so plan on 5 to 6 hours for the tour.
We enjoyed a warm welcome from the farmer family, where we observed the entire handmade chocolate-making process and explored various fruits. It was an impressive and delicious experience.
This experience offers a fantastic chance to connect with a dedicated local family who generously share their insights into rural life in Ecuador. They are also preparing to produce high-quality artisan chocolate for export to Czechoslovakia. My guide Simon was both kind and knowledgeable, and he helped me grasp the intricate process of transforming cacao fruit into delicious chocolate. Visiting the farm showcased its incredible variety of produce, and the lunch made from their own ingredients was delightful. The experience concluded with the fun of decorating my personal chocolate bar. Thank you, Simon!
