Newfound Gap
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, USA

Newfound Gap is a mountain pass located at an elevation of 1,475 metres in the Great Smoky Mountains, straddling the North Carolina and Tennessee border. It was established in the early 20th century as a transportation route through the park and offers sweeping views of the surrounding peaks, including a lookout point that commemorates the historic Civilian Conservation Corps.
Take time to hike along the Appalachian Trail that crosses through the gap for a closer look at the diverse flora and fauna. Fall is particularly popular for the autumn foliage, though summer also brings mild weather perfect for exploring. Keep an eye out for fog rolling in quickly, which can reduce visibility.
