Seven to eight hours with a guide — visit Trou Aux Cerfs, Grand Bassin, Chamarel, and Maconde viewpoint, including lunch at a local restaurant.
This guided tour takes you through the stunning volcanic landscapes of southwest Mauritius over the course of seven to eight hours. Start with a visit to Trou Aux Cerfs, a dormant volcano with panoramic views of the island. Following that, head to Mare Aux Vacoas, a reservoir surrounded by lush forest, before continuing to Grand Bassin, the island's sacred lake known for its temples and statues.
A local restaurant in Chamarel serves lunch, after which you explore the Chamarel waterfall and the unique seven-coloured earth. Don’t miss the Chamarel Viewpoint for striking photos, before ending your tour with a trip to Maconde for spectacular coastal views. Return transport to your accommodation is included.

A fantastic experience in the southern part of the island. While the entrance fee is somewhat high, the stunning views make it worthwhile. The visit to the seven-colored earth is particularly enjoyable.
The experience was very accommodating. We adjusted our itinerary because of mosquito spraying, and it turned out wonderfully. Our driver was a local and had a wealth of knowledge.
This tour is a great way to experience the flavors of Mauritius and explore a stunning part of the island. Swadesh, our guide, made extra efforts to ensure it was a memorable day.
The tour was fantastic, and our guide was exceptional—punctual and attentive to our time at each stop. We enjoyed a great day exploring the stunning southern part of the island. Thank you.
The guide was incredibly friendly and had extensive local knowledge. The southern region is lush and green. I would suggest this as a relaxing and enjoyable day trip.
I have previously used Viator in various countries and had excellent experiences, but this tour was absolutely the worst. The “guide” I had to confirm was indeed the guide told me outright that this was not a guided tour and that he was merely a driver. As a history enthusiast, I was eager to learn about the culture, history, and geography, but I gained absolutely nothing. I'm deeply disappointed and hesitant to book more tours with Viator for fear of another letdown. I had planned to utilize Viator for several other tours during this trip. If you're considering this tour, it would be better to take a taxi and explore the sites on your own, as the experience would be the same.
This tour of the southern part of the island was fantastic. Our guide, Ben, was exceptional in ensuring we experienced everything listed, while also including additional stops that catered to our interests. The sights were impressive, and even with a rainy day, Ben's timing allowed us to avoid the worst of it. Lunch offered a great variety and was more than sufficient. Highlights for me included the Gorge, the alternative double waterfall, and the tortoises, along with some beautiful overlook spots. We also visited a shipbuilding factory and explored more overlooks. The rain did dull the vibrant colors of the 7 colored spot, but there were ample bathroom breaks, water stops, and enough time at each location. I never felt rushed throughout the day.
The tour was lengthy, yet we experienced a variety of attractions. Personally, I loved the Chamaral waterfall and the spots with the 7 Colored Earth.
We arranged a private tour of southern Mauritius for two, anticipating a driver/guide to accompany us. Instead, we had a taxi driver who remained in the car, frequently distracted by his phone, and provided minimal information. When I expressed my concerns, he claimed he was instructed not to guide and only to transport us. We paid £176 and felt it was a waste. Additionally, the expected 7 to 8-hour trip was only 6 hours long. To truly appreciate this beautiful island, find a guide who is eager to show you around.
This experience felt like just a taxi service instead of a proper tour. It wasn't worth the money spent. The car lacked air conditioning, the driver was late, and there was no attempt at conversation or explanation. I'm very disappointed.
