We enjoyed a private north tour with Ridwaan, who proved to be an outstanding guide—friendly, dependable, and knowledgeable. He was adaptable and genuinely receptive to our wishes. Though we had to forgo a swim at the beach due to rain, it was unavoidable. We toured the Botanical Gardens, which we found underwhelming, along with Port Louis, Adelaide Fort, Château de Labourdonnais, and the lovely red-roofed church at Cap Malheureux. A highlight was our stop at a local restaurant, where we savored generous and tasty dishes at very affordable prices. We appreciated Ridwaan's recommendation over the typical, pricier tourist venues. His excellent English and helpful advice were invaluable for first-time visitors to Mauritius. He was willing to accommodate all our needs, and we would certainly endorse his services.
On our final day in Mauritius, we sought an engaging activity to fill our time before a late flight. After exploring several tours during our stay, I decided to take a northern tour. I contacted The Palm Taxi service, who responded quickly with their availability. The following day, Ridwaan picked us up from our hotel right on schedule, and we embarked on our trip. We explored the botanical garden, sugar museum (including rum tastings), Citadelle, and Port Louis. The standout of the tour wasn't just the sights but Ridwaan himself—an articulate, engaging, and knowledgeable guide. It was a genuine pleasure to spend the day with him. He was attentive and accommodating, and I cannot recommend his services highly enough. We gained more insight into the country in this one tour than in the entire two weeks of our stay.
Ridwaan ensured our pick-up and tour went smoothly, while Noorani proved extremely knowledgeable about the history during the tour. We would happily recommend this experience to friends, and if we return, we will reach out to do the south tour.
The Botanical Gardens were filled with towering water lilies, and we also visited the Sugar Museum and a Tamil temple. Our driver and guide, Sivagen, was attentive and adjusted the tour to match our interests.
This tour was ideal for my husband and me. Since it was our second visit to Mauritius, we preferred a private tour for more flexibility compared to a group option. I booked it the day before, and the confirmation came quickly. Our driver, Shiva, was wonderful, full of knowledge and experience. He took us to all the highlighted locations, provided historical insights, and then allowed us to explore at our leisure, which was just what we wanted. We appreciated being able to go at our own pace and had a fantastic time. If you're after a fully guided experience, a group tour might suit you better, but for those who enjoy some independence, I highly recommend this option. We felt neither rushed nor uncomfortable, and Shiva ensured that our entire experience was unforgettable.
