Half-day tour by eco-friendly van — explore historic sites, scenic overlooks, and learn about the Appalachian Trail at Newfound Gap.
This half-day tour departs from a central location in Gatlinburg, TN, using comfortable, eco-friendly vans. The journey begins with a visit to the remnants of an early 20th-century resort town, where stories of logging, pioneer life, and the establishment of the national park come to life.
As you ascend the mountains along one of the most picturesque routes in the southeast, there will be stops at scenic overlooks to capture photos and engage with the natural surroundings. The tour culminates at Newfound Gap, with its high elevation of 5,000 feet marking the Tennessee-North Carolina border. Here, you will discover insights about the Appalachian Trail and hear about President Franklin Roosevelt’s dedication of the park in 1940.

Phillip served as our driver and shared a wealth of knowledge about the region. When an accident forced a change in our planned route, he swiftly provided an alternative, allowing us to enjoy stunning scenery and rich history throughout our three-hour tour.
Our tour with Phillip yesterday was truly enjoyable. He shared an abundance of knowledge and proved to be an excellent guide. Along with two other couples, we appreciated the intriguing stories, rich history, and Phillip's flexibility in catering to our specific interests. We spotted a bear in a tree, admired stunning views of the park, and learned extensively about the streams, plants, and flowers—more than I ever expected. I highly recommend this tour and Phillip as a guide; we would certainly participate again.
The classic tour with Mark as our guide was a fantastic experience for the four of us. He had extensive knowledge about the area and its history. Since it was just the four of us, Mark could tailor the tour to our questions and interests. I strongly recommend this tour.
This was an excellent experience. We gained a lot of knowledge and were engaged the entire time. Phillip was wonderful, customizing the tour to fit our interests. It far exceeded exploring on our own. The snacks and water were an added bonus.
This was truly the ideal way to experience the Smokies without having to drive, and Phil was fantastic in answering all our questions.
The Smoky Mountains are stunning, especially on a day like today. Wes, our guide, was exceptional. I highly recommend this tour.
Driving through Smoky Mountain National Park was an amazing experience. We made our way to the Mt. LeConte area, where the views from every seat were stunning. Newfound Gap provided abundant photo opportunities. Our guide, Jay, was kind, friendly, and well-informed about all the attractions. It’s a fantastic way to explore the park.
Philip, our guide for the national parks tour, was exceptional. He shared a wealth of information along with many engaging stories.
Phillip Bateman was fantastic. He had an extensive understanding of the park and adapted the tour to our preferences, even suggesting to extend it if we desired. It was a wonderful experience! Make sure to ask for Phillip!
Jay was incredibly insightful and quite humorous, which made the journey engaging. I had a great time while also gaining knowledge about the Great Smoky Mountains. This experience is not to be missed.
