As someone who hasn't fished much in the last five years due to health issues, I needed assistance, and Wes was exceptional. The stream was rocky, and I struggled to navigate, but he consistently offered a steady hand. His expertise about the local history and fishing conditions was remarkable, including details about species distribution and how slight water temperature changes affected fishing. He shared this knowledge in a friendly manner, avoiding a teacher-like approach. I appreciated his patience, especially since I missed numerous strikes and tangled with overhead trees—he remained calm and supportive. Overall, I loved the experience and highly recommend it to anyone interested in local tours. The natural beauty of the area was breathtaking, and I even caught a couple of beautiful trout (four Rainbows and one Brook), which felt impressive given my lack of experience. This was the pinnacle of our vacation. Every penny spent made our anniversary unforgettable. I booked the trip knowing fly fishing on New Year's Day in chilly weather may not be ideal. Wes reached out to inform us of the conditions and suggested a stocked area for better chances. I explained that we didn’t expect to catch fish, just wanted to appreciate nature. He was flexible, adjusted our schedule, obtained our wader sizes, and provided a clear meeting spot. Wes was responsive over the phone and assisted with fishing licenses that were under $15 each for the day. Upon our arrival, he explained the plan, and we followed him to the fishing site, where we suited up in high-quality, clean waders and boots. We took a brief walk to the river and started fishing. Wes patiently taught my husband and me how to cast and navigate the river safely. We achieved our objectives: learning, staying safe, and having fun. Even though we didn’t catch many fish, the experience itself was delightful. Wes offered great conversation, shared insights about fly fishing and the Smoky Mountains, and recommended excellent food and activities. We will certainly return and would love to have Wes as our guide again. If you're thinking about this, do it!
