Two days by Amtrak — explore Yosemite’s Glacier Point and Valley, overnight in Fresno, with optional 4-mile hike available.
This two-day tour takes you from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park. Travel by Amtrak to Fresno, where you’ll stay overnight before a day exploring the park. Marvel at iconic sights including El Capitan, Half Dome, Bridalveil Falls, and Yosemite Falls.
The tour includes options for a more strenuous 4-mile hike for those looking for adventure. You’ll also visit Glacier Point for stunning views and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. This itinerary works well for travellers moving between San Francisco and Los Angeles who wish to include a visit to Yosemite.

Seeing Yosemite this way was fantastic. The train transfer from San Francisco was easy, but remember to take the Amtrak shuttle bus (included with your ticket) to get to the train station in Oakland before heading to Fresno. The hotel in Fresno offers a shuttle service, and the accommodation was acceptable, though be prepared for an early start on the day of the Yosemite tour. The tour itself was excellent and the guide knowledgeable, but traversing Yosemite takes a while due to its vastness. The packed lunch included a generous-sized sandwich, but you can also choose to dine at the hotel restaurant in Yosemite. There is a lot to experience within a day, and it’s definitely worthwhile. Just keep in mind that you need to leave the park early to catch your return train.
Our guide from Crossroads was exceptional, making the experience memorable. Although weather conditions limited our views of certain areas in the park, he expertly led us to lesser-known spots that were not part of the usual itinerary. Overall, it was an incredible day and worth the cost. However, there was an issue with the train schedule that led us to miss our original train. Amtrak mentioned that Viator had been informed about this change two weeks ahead, but we were not notified. Fortunately, we managed to catch a later train that got us to our hotel in Fresno just before midnight, and our pick-up was at 6:30 the next morning, which was not the ideal start to our trip. I found Viator's website lacking in crucial information and updates regarding itinerary changes. I'm unsure if this is the fault of Crossroads or Viator, but travelers should be cautious.
I was charged more than expected and am requesting a refund of $425. The advertisement stated a price of $352 for an overnight trip from San Francisco to Yosemite, but I ended up being charged over $771. I paid $352 directly to Crossroad for an extra day. Please refund the extra amount.
Escaping the daily grind is easy when you venture into this natural paradise. Take a moment to breathe deeply and appreciate your surroundings; it will refresh your spirit.
Our visit to Yosemite was fantastic. The tour was organized exceptionally well, allowing ample time for photos and to appreciate the breathtaking views. The driver provided a wealth of information and was friendly and accommodating, doing everything he could to enhance our experience. Thank you.
