Big Cypress National Preserve
Fort Myers, USA

Big Cypress National Preserve is a vast wetland area covering over 700,000 acres in southern Florida, established in 1974 to protect the unique ecosystems of the region. Visitors encounter a mosaic of swamps, sawgrass prairies, and hardwood swamps, offering habitats for diverse wildlife, including alligators, panthers, and numerous bird species.
Setting aside several hours would allow you to explore the scenic drives and trails, with the most notable being the Tamiami Trail. The best time to visit is during the dry season from November to April, when temperatures are more temperate and mosquitoes are less active. Keep an eye out for the rich variety of flora along the trails.
