Full-day private tour includes tubing on Rio Celeste, hiking to the waterfall, wildlife spotting, and lunch, guided by a naturalist in the rainforest.
This private all-day tour from Filadelfia begins with a hike through the rainforest to the stunning Rio Celeste waterfall. A knowledgeable naturalist guide will lead you, ensuring you don’t miss the fascinating flora and fauna along the way.
After reaching the waterfall, it’s time to tube down the Celeste River. The tour allows you to float through both lively rapids and tranquil backwaters, with opportunities to swim and observe local wildlife such as sloths. The tour includes a local lunch, and you’ll have a chance to admire the ancient Tree of Peace, which is over 500 years old. Bring comfortable shoes for hiking, and be prepared for a day in the lush surroundings.
Reviews
Be cautious when booking this excursion. Although the description states that hotel pickup and drop-off are included, the company insisted on an additional fee of $20 per person for that service, totaling $160 for us. Their explanation about "point-to-point" pickup was confusing and contradictory to their initial claims. It felt like a deliberate attempt to justify this extra charge. While our guide Emil was friendly, he lacked familiarity with the tour and didn't share much information. Although the tubing staff, Gerald and Fabrizio, were commendable, I cannot recommend this tour. It simply isn't worth the cost.
I regret not heeding the warnings from prior reviews about this tour provider. Despite confirming the pick-up time five days prior and the tickets indicating hotel pick-up was included, we were informed the day before that we had to pay an additional $25 per person for it, totaling $225 for our group of nine. While enjoying our vacation with our kids, we found the message after 6 PM, and by then, they had canceled our trip and refused a refund due to "lack of confirmation." Although Viator eventually supported us and issued a refund after some effort, the situation caused significant stress during our vacation. I felt outraged by the tour company's handling of our booking and questioned why they did not clarify the pick-up details earlier, seemingly to extract more money at the last minute. It's difficult to understand how this operator is permitted to be listed on a reputable platform, as they appear to be taking advantage of some loophole. We had a fantastic experience with a different tour booked through Viator just days earlier, so this disappointment was especially disappointing.
It was a fantastic day. Julian was an excellent guide who was very accommodating. The river was stunning, and the guides were incredibly helpful. The lunch provided was also very tasty.
We had a fantastic experience! Alex was a joy to be with; he had a deep understanding of the area and shared great insights about everything we saw. Highly recommended—you’ll definitely enjoy it.
Our guide, Francisco, was exceptional and went above and beyond to ensure we had an outstanding experience. We hiked to a waterfall, enjoyed fresh pineapple and coconut water, tubed down the blue river, visited a sloth sanctuary, and savored a wonderful meal. It was a day we will always remember.
The tubing experience was fantastic. The staff were wonderful, and I highly recommend it. It was a great opportunity for bonding with family.
I strongly advise against booking this tour. The customer service was terrible, and there was a complete lack of communication. I booked for myself and four friends, but the day before, I noticed there was no pickup time provided. After multiple attempts to reach the provider by phone and through the TripAdvisor app, I received no response. When I messaged them on WhatsApp, they requested an extra $25 per person for a 7 am pickup, despite the listing indicating that hotel pickup was included for our listed hotel. After questioning this, they stopped responding altogether. After several failed attempts to connect with them, I reached out to TripAdvisor for help. Although the agent was helpful and I ultimately received a refund, it took an hour on the phone, and the whole situation was extremely inconvenient and disappointing, ruining our plans for the vacation.
I was very disappointed. They mentioned an additional fee for picking up at your location, which was $55 per person. When I offered to meet at a hotel 15 minutes from the pick-up point, my reservation was confused, and there were not enough tickets. They claimed there was an issue with my booking.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time on this tour and would definitely suggest it. I was initially hesitant due to some negative feedback, but since it included all the activities we wanted, I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The listing mentions an additional $25 per person for pickup from your accommodation, and even though our rental is in a remote area without a clear address, they were very accommodating with the pickup. We felt it was worth paying that fee and were surprised by some of the negative comments regarding it. The excursion was fantastic, and our driver, Mauricio, was friendly and very helpful. River tubing was our favorite activity, although we enjoyed all the stops. Just a heads-up—it's a long day. We began at 7 am in Tamarindo and got dropped off after 8 pm, partly due to heavy traffic and spending time at various stops. But it was definitely worth it, and I'd recommend it to others.
This tour did not match the advertisement at all. Out of the promised activities, only the tubing was as described. Here's what actually occurred: 1. For the Rio Celeste National Park hike, we found ourselves alone in a parking lot because the bus driver wasn’t the same as the guide. The driver, who had limited English, just roamed around. Another man came from a nearby restaurant and led us into the park, instructing us to walk 1.5 km without providing further guidance. He returned to his phone in the restaurant while we did not get to see the merging brooks or go swimming. Eventually, we went back to him and waited twenty minutes for our van to arrive. 2. The river tubing was indeed fun and was the only segment where we had an actual guide while on the river. 3. We skipped the Cataratas Llanos De Cortes completely. 4. We also did not visit Finca Lima Verde. 5. After tubing, we were driven to a roadside shack. There was a language barrier since none of the staff spoke enough English for me to order without Google Translate. The guide abruptly left after we ordered. 6. After lunch, our driver informed us through Google Translate that we could either see the paradise tree or head back to Tamarindo. We opted to return after looking up the tree. Overall, the trip felt okay mainly due to the tubing, but it was nothing like what was presented. Additionally, I was disappointed with Victor’s response; they refuse to assist me beyond forwarding my complaint to the tour operator, which I have no connection to. Viator charged my card and has been unhelpful in addressing this issue. I advise against booking this tour and caution about using Viator in the future.
