The 21km trekking route to Fitzroy is the most well-known, offering stunning views throughout the journey. Although it’s a lengthy trek, I stayed engaged as Fitzroy was in sight the entire time. The final hour and a half involves a challenging 400m elevation gain with scree that can be slippery on the descent, so I recommend using walking sticks. This trek was the highlight of my trip. The weather allowed for short sleeves, but there were many insects, and I got quite a few bites. It was also chilly near the lake with strong winds. Be sure to carry enough water.
My final destination in Patagonia was the trek to Los Tres lagoon. The hike is quite long, around 25 km round-trip, making it challenging not due to difficulty but distance. It's definitely rewarding, but it's important to consider the distance carefully. I suggest arranging a taxi that drops you at Rio Electrico to start from a less busy area. The distance remains the same, but you face less elevation gain. In my view, this route offers better views, especially since you return along a different path. Overall, it was a breathtaking experience.
Victoria was fantastic, highly knowledgeable, and excelled in her role. The trail is quite challenging and may not suit everyone, but it truly offers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
The location is amazing, even though the weather was not in our favor. I definitely need to return, as the clouds blocked my view of the Fitz.
The guide was outstanding and incredibly knowledgeable, providing us with breathtaking views along with insights into the history and geological aspects that intrigued us. We created many memories, took numerous photos, and even enjoyed hot tea provided by him. Overall, it was a wonderful experience in Patagonia.
During our visit from November 10-14, we appreciated the weather and the challenging hike to Laguna de los Tres. Even though it was frozen, it felt like a significant achievement for us. The weather was fantastic!
This was an excellent excursion that I highly recommend. However, my experience felt shortened because I was based in El Calafate rather than El Chaltén, which is 250 km away. Consequently, we started our hike around 9:30 instead of at 7 AM, limiting our time at Fitz Roy.
This hike is truly stunning, though it is quite challenging for those who have some trekking experience. Our trip lasted six hours one way in perfect weather, with a break for lunch at Capri Lagoon, or you can opt to go to the nearby beach. The trail does involve an ascent, then it's relatively calm until you reach the campsite, followed by another two hours of hiking. The return journey takes about four hours, and although it feels tough, you can manage it. Overall, it was a beautiful adventure, a dream come true. It’s completely free, but make sure to bring plenty of food, and if you run out of water, you can refill along the way.
The hike was excellent—long but manageable. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced. While the trail can be navigated without a guide on clear days, having someone during bad weather is beneficial. I would suggest the guide check in with the group more often and maintain an appropriate pace, as we were just two participants.
It was an incredible experience. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather; I went in September and found it to be cold but stunningly beautiful. The scenery was simply breathtaking.
