The visit to these stunning locations involved quite a bit of hiking, which was challenging for us as we aren't young, though we have some mountain experience. However, every steep ascent and descent was entirely worth it for the breathtaking nature we encountered. We also ascended to the Los Condores Viewpoint.
This was undoubtedly one of the best tours I've experienced. A friend and I were initially attracted to this tour to see Fitz Roy, but it offered so much more. Our guide, Louis, was an expert in flora, fauna, and the landscape, and I highly recommend requesting him. The trip included sleeping accommodations and cooked dinners during our camping nights. Overall, it was brilliantly organized, and I would strongly recommend it to everyone.
My friend and I booked this tour, thinking it would be a manageable overnight hike for inexperienced hikers. We were mistaken. They sent a video introducing the camp and indicated we would receive a map, a radio, food for both days, and instructions at the departure point. However, when we arrived, the lady at the agency did not provide us with a map or any guidance about the trek. Instead, we received only inadequate food supplies for the entire trip. On the first day, despite rainy weather and the possibility of snow, we asked if it was safe to proceed, and the staff assured us it was. After being dropped off 17 km from the city, we struggled to find the trailhead, relying on advice from other hikers to navigate. For four hours, we hiked alone on an isolated path, filled with anxiety due to the conditions. When we reached the camp, there was no one from the agency to greet us, and we started to doubt if we were even in the right place. Other campers informed us that we followed the wrong route—confirmation that the agency's directions were flawed. As it began to snow, fellow hikers suggested we return to El Chalten for safety since we had no confirmation of who would meet us at the camp. Ultimately, we left without experiencing the overnight stay, feeling that we wasted our money on a shuttle and insufficient food. The agency never checked in to see if we returned safely, which was disheartening. For the inexperienced hikers considering this trek, I advise against it. Instead, opt for the free popular trail from El Chalten and rent equipment if you want to camp. We were fortunate to return safely, thanks to the kindness of other hikers, not the organizers.
Our experience on this two-day trek was remarkable. It began with a 30-minute drive from El Chalten, followed by a hike on the Pilar Trail to the campsite and then to Laguna de los Tres on the first day. The second day involved an easy hike to Cerro Torre before heading back to El Chalten. We rated it 4 stars because, as vegetarians, we noticed that while lunch was vegetarian, our dinner and breakfast at camp were not, and they overlooked our dietary needs. It’s crucial to remind them about dietary restrictions. Aside from that, everything was excellently organized. The campsite was comfortable, making it a pleasant spot to unwind after the challenging hike to Laguna de los Tres. The remaining hiking was of easy to moderate difficulty, but the scenery was unparalleled. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.
A must-do. This was the best way to access the Lagoon of the Three, and while it appears challenging, it's completely attainable.
This experience is truly remarkable and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Patagonia. However, it's worth noting that you can find it for less than half the price offered here; with some online searching, rates under $180 USD per person are available as of January 2024. Despite the pricing issue, the experience itself was outstanding. Everything you need is provided, allowing you to fully enjoy the stunning scenery and the hike. The accommodations were excellent, and Americano, the team member who assisted us at the campsite, was fantastic. In summary, I would highly recommend this experience, but I suggest avoiding booking through this platform.
This was an incredible experience. Everything was well-organized, and the lunches and dinner were enjoyable. The trek and the lake are stunning, although the elevation to Laguna de los Tres may pose a challenge for complete beginners.
The transportation was easy to locate, and we received two packed lunches that provided plenty of food. Being dropped off at Rio Eléctrico is a significant advantage as it saves from a steep uphill trek from El Chaltén. Although I felt uncertain from previous reviews about finding the trails, I used the All Trails app, which was reliable; however, with perfect weather, we could have navigated just fine without it. The trail does branch at times but eventually reconnects. The guide clarified what sign to look for to find the camp, so pay attention to that detail. The camp host was incredibly kind and welcoming. He prepared a delightful three-course dinner with wine, set up his Wi-Fi to check the weather for us, and made breakfast with hot coffee. We hiked up to Fitz Roy/Laguna de los Tres on the first day due to the weather forecast, while the second day was a relaxed late morning start with a steady hike to view Cerro Torre, allowing us to return to El Chaltén by 4:30. Overall, it was precisely what we were looking for.
The flexibility to change our booking date due to bad weather and the caring staff at the campsite were positives. However, they did not provide vegetarian food as promised, and there were no maps for navigating the area, despite being told there was only one route. Finding the campsite was difficult since there were no signs; we only located it with help from a local. Although the campsite was unaware of our arrival, their staff was very helpful and accommodating. Overall, despite the lack of preparation, the experience was enjoyable. However, given the price, I anticipated a higher level of service without the stress that I encountered on the first day. Otherwise, I could have simply camped at a free site nearby.
