A 5-km round trip hike through Jökuldalur valley to Stuðlagil Canyon, followed by relaxation at Vök Baths.
This excursion takes you through the scenic countryside of East Iceland, beginning with a stop at Rjúkandi Waterfall before heading to the impressive Stuðlagil Canyon. The hike is approximately 2.5 km each way, covering mostly flat gravel paths, with a couple of gentle slopes that are manageable for those in good walking condition.
Upon reaching the canyon floor, you will be surrounded by striking basalt columns and the glacial river, ideal for photography. After the hike, enjoy some downtime in the soothing geothermal waters at Vök Baths, making for a pleasant end to your outdoor adventure.
Reviews
Our experience was fantastic. The guides were enjoyable, knowledgeable, and skilled at ensuring that every member of our group made the most out of the trip.
We anticipated a small tour bus, but instead, they merged two tours and used a large bus, which was not what we preferred. The trip involved significantly more walking on uneven ground to reach the canyon, with a round trip of about 40 minutes. The bath was acceptable, but overall, the experience felt overpriced.
The canyon is stunning, and the buses were clean. However, the highlight was definitely the Vok bath. Don’t miss the cold plunge in the lake; it was the perfect conclusion to an excellent tour.
Our guide was outstanding, making for a flawless day. We thoroughly enjoyed both experiences, especially the chance to view the town from a high vantage point before returning to our ship. The Vok baths were incredible, and we loved jumping into the cold lake after soaking in the hot pool; the feeling of returning to the warmth was delightful.
We had a fantastic day discovering the stunning Studlagil Canyon, followed by some relaxation at the Vok Baths. Our guide Sich was exceptional and added so much joy to the experience. The canyon’s beauty and views were breathtaking. The baths provided the ideal conclusion to our day. This has been our favorite guided tour in Iceland so far.
The experience in Studlagil Canyon was truly enchanting. Tinna from Tanni Travel served as our guide; her extensive knowledge and engaging conversation made the trip even better, and she skillfully navigated the rough gravel roads. We stopped at Rjukanda Waterfall on the way there and visited Vök Spa on our return, which features various warm pools by a beautiful lake near Egilstadir. It was wonderfully relaxing, although we encountered quite a few cruise tourists at the spa.
This excursion truly exceeded our expectations. The van was clean and comfortable, and our guide, who is the owner's son, was incredibly knowledgeable. With a small group, we had engaging conversations and learned a lot. He accompanied us on the hike to the canyon, guiding us to the best photo spots and helping those who wanted to reach the bottom. The Vok baths were enjoyable, and some of us even jumped into the lake.
This tour is outstanding, providing access to the canyon with breathtaking views. The Vok baths are much more relaxing and have a more authentic feel compared to the Blue Lagoon. Our guide and driver, Tina, was knowledgeable, professional, and humorous, which made the experience truly exceptional.
I had a fantastic time on this trip. Our guide, Tinna, was friendly and went out of her way to make us comfortable. She shared fascinating stories and was a delightful companion throughout the journey. The canyon was stunning, and ending the day at the baths was a perfect, relaxing touch. I highly recommend this experience.
Participating in a small group tour made it possible for our compact bus to access the east side of the canyon, which offers superior views. We had roughly a 30-minute walk along a gravel path. The day concluded at Vok Bath, where we took a refreshing dip in the lake. Our tour guide was wonderful and shared her personal experiences from growing up in the region.
