This experience was unforgettable. We went on this trip during our cruise in Iceland, where our guide picked us up at the port in Djupivogur. The ride to the glacier in the van was very comfortable. Gunnar, our enthusiastic guide, shared captivating stories and valuable local insights about glaciers. Visiting the glacier was absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend it even for those short on time. Just be sure to dress warmly; it was +20 when we left Djupivogur, but the glacier was windy and freezing. We also made additional stops at the 'diamond beach' and various waterfalls, with breathtaking views of Iceland's natural beauty throughout the journey.
The customer service at Iceland Highlights was excellent, accommodating our departure time after we arrived at Djupivogur port via cruise ship. Our friendly driver and tour guide, John, allowed us extra time and shared many fascinating stories and historical insights about Iceland. This tour truly exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it.
The weather was not ideal, which may have impacted the experience. We spent two hours in a van each way, and the guide had a quiet voice and no audio system. He mentioned he would answer questions but didn't provide much information otherwise, leaving us unsure of what to ask. This ended up being the least enjoyable and also the most costly of our excursions in Iceland. Since there aren't many options from this port, I suggest looking for a different route to the glacier lagoon.
Einar, our tour guide, was excellent. The journey to the glacier lagoon, diamond beach, and waterfall was lengthy but definitely worthwhile. However, our group of six was joined by two last-minute additions, making the van quite cramped and uncomfortable. Those in the back had difficulty hearing the guide. I would suggest this tour provided they use a larger vehicle to ensure comfort and better audio for such a long trip.
The tour was canceled just one day before the scheduled date, and there was no explanation given for the cancellation. While the operator did offer a refund and suggested other tour options, we were unable to take advantage of those. It was a significant disappointment.
We initially struggled to connect with the tour at the port in Djupivogur, which was surprising given its small size. However, the tour itself proved to be enjoyable. The drive from Djupivogur to the ice lagoon and beach takes over two hours, but it's worth it. We also made a stop at Skudafoss waterfall, although the water flow was quite low due to recent dry weather. Fortunately, we had pleasant weather with sunshine and light winds, which provided excellent visibility once the morning fog cleared. Overall, it was a good experience.
We spent a wonderful day traveling from Djupivogur to the glacial lagoon and Diamond Beach, with a few extra stops for sightseeing and at Skutafoss waterfall. The small coach provided comfort, and our driver was informative and attentive to everyone's needs. We strongly recommend this tour and the operator.
We had a fantastic day exploring southeastern Iceland with our guide, Jon Gardar Bjarnason. Jon was both knowledgeable and personable, with a great sense of humor. His insights helped us better understand Icelandic culture and lifestyle. We started in Hofn, where we enjoyed a personalized tour and took in the views of the glaciers, ending with a delightful latte at Olis. Our next stops were Diamond Beach and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, which were simply breathtaking. Jon highlighted important features of the locations while encouraging us to take photos, displaying his exceptional photography skills. We then visited Skutafoss Waterfall, where his expertise enhanced our experience significantly. Throughout the journey, we encountered stone troll images, heard stories about elves, spotted swans, and learned about Viking heritage. It truly was a memorable day, and we are grateful to Jon for it.
