We enjoyed a wonderful day on the water with the team from Diani Dhow. They were attentive and patient with our kids. The breakfast and lunch were both good, and the snorkeling was fantastic.
There is significant potential for enhancement in professionalism regarding both skills and hospitality. The experience oftenFeels driven by routine rather than a commitment to quality and service. Moreover, the focus on tips can occasionally overshadow the importance of delivering attentive and consistent service.
We enjoyed a wonderful day with perfect weather, and the crew's management was excellent. Having grown up in Kenya, I was familiar with the area. The drive from Diani to Shimoni was an hour, and we were picked up right on schedule. From Shimoni, we took a dhow to the snorkelling site, enjoying engaging conversations with the friendly crew along the way. A traditional local breakfast and tea were served on the boat, and it took about an hour to reach the snorkelling spot. We snorkelled for roughly 45 minutes, had a break, and some returned for an additional half hour. While the visibility wasn't great and the coral was less vibrant than I had hoped, there were still plenty of fish. Some guests explored a large sand bar before we experienced a somewhat bumpy ride to Wasini Island, where a powerboat took us ashore for lunch above a cliff. Soft drinks were available on the boat, and we had options to pay extra for lobster, octopus, or prawns. The included lunch featured delicious but small portions of crab, barbecued fish, vegetables, and coconut rice with a coconut sauce. Despite the strong wind, it was an adventurous day. We also visited a local kindergarten where the children sang to us. On our return to Shimoni, we were taken to the 'Slave Caves,’ where we learned about the tragic history of those imprisoned there before being shipped to various destinations. While the travel time consumed a significant portion of the day, we ultimately had a great experience.
We enjoyed a wonderful day with the Diani Dhow team during our boat trip. The entire crew was very attentive, ensuring our safety while snorkeling, capturing moments throughout the day, and providing food and drinks. Breakfast was served on the boat, while we had a delicious lunch at a restaurant on Wasini Island featuring generous portion sizes. I highly recommend this excursion as it offers an exceptional experience. I especially appreciated receiving all the beautifully edited, high-quality photos after the trip. A couple of tips: be generous with sunscreen while snorkeling since it can get extremely hot and the sun's intensity can be surprising. Also, be prepared for local staff (not part of the boat team) who may approach you for souvenir sales at the restaurant; it can be a bit overwhelming but is typical of Diani's culture.
Our trip to the ocean was excellent. We were very satisfied with the experience. Both breakfast and lunch were enjoyable. The snorkeling was outstanding, thanks to the professional guides. We spotted dolphins and many beautiful fish. The space on the boat was ample since there was a limit on participants.
We arranged a private excursion to Kisiti Marine Park and Wasini from Diani Beach and were absolutely delighted. As first-time snorkelers, we were a bit nervous, but the team accommodated all our requests and tailored the tour to our preferences. Highlights included spotting dolphins, turtles, and a myriad of vibrant fish—truly magical. The snorkeling equipment was in excellent condition, clean and up to date. We also enjoyed fresh fruit and tasty snacks throughout the trip. A sincere thank you to the crew for making this private tour personal and stress-free. For those who appreciate unique experiences, this is an outstanding option.
We arranged a private tour, and the crew was attentive to our needs and comfort. Drinks and fresh fruit were readily available. We had fantastic experiences seeing dolphins and snorkeling, which was truly breathtaking. I would rate it a perfect experience but for the local lunch. It seemed unnecessary as it was quite basic, but the real issue was the constant pressure to purchase and donate. If not for the lunch situation, I would have given a full score. Overall, it's highly recommended.
An excellent tour experience with simple booking, wonderful interactions with Steffen, great value, and an overall amazing time. Highly recommend it.
Paying €100 per person turned out to be disappointing. The “Swahili” breakfast was greasy and not very tasty, and the lunch did not meet the expectations for a boat trip at this price. In fact, this was the only place in Kenya where the food let us down, so I suggest eating beforehand. The lunch stop was also uncomfortable as we were repeatedly approached by individuals requesting money, tips, donations for children, visits to their shops, or even cigarettes, which made the experience quite unpleasant. We shared our concerns with Stephen, but he stopped responding. When we reached out again, he made excuses instead of addressing our issues properly, and we never received an apology. This prompted us to share our experience here.
We had a fantastic time at Kisite Marine Park and Aqualand on Wasini Island. Steffen was very responsive, ensuring everything was punctual and well-organized. The dhow crew was incredibly friendly, guiding us through wonderful snorkeling while accommodating our large group of children. The photos taken during the trip were a great bonus, capturing both the water and boat moments and saving us some trouble.
