We had a fantastic whale watching experience. We spotted Fin whales and a playful super pod of small-nosed common dolphins leaping out of the water, which was a thrill to witness. Additionally, we encountered long-nosed common dolphins and sea lions. Captain Matt and First Assistant Hannah were enjoyable companions, demonstrating both knowledge and skill throughout the trip. While I had hoped to see humpbacks, seeing Fin whales for the first time was still exciting, even though they lack the breaching and fluke behavior that I enjoy more in humpbacks. Observing their speed and size, as they are the second largest whales after Blue whales, was impressive. The anticipation of spotting them was both relaxing and exhilarating. The playful small-nosed dolphins were also a memorable highlight, especially with so many adorable babies. Matt and Hannah seemed so engaged in our experience that they lost track of time, returning to the harbor later than planned, giving us extra time on the water. Overall, it was a very enjoyable outing.
Cas and Janel are excellent guides. Their commentary was both accurate and witty, making the trip truly enjoyable.
Our boat trip was fantastic, and we were fortunate enough to see three fin whales. Captain Gary and First Mate Hannah made for an excellent crew; they were friendly, generous with their time, and showed great respect for the animals. Their explanations and interesting insights about the whales, dolphins, and other wildlife were greatly appreciated. We'll certainly return.
I had a wonderful experience and this was my second time in a month. I can already tell this will be my new guilty pleasure. I really enjoy watching the dolphins, and I've spotted whales on both occasions. Captain Cas is hilarious, and Chloe shares so many interesting facts.
Our trip was outstanding. Captain Jim found three large pods of common dolphins, and we spent an hour and a half following two fin whales, concluding the tour with three sea lions on a buoy. Janel shared her extensive knowledge of marine life, and Mike was also very helpful and well-informed. I strongly recommend Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching.
I had an excellent experience with Captain Matt and First Mate Mike. We witnessed three whales playing together, along with dolphins and seals. It was a fantastic time on the water.
As a local, I had always wanted to experience Captain Dave's. A few friends and I took a Tuesday morning to go whale watching, and it turned out to be a remarkable outing. We encountered three fin whales, a gray whale, sea lions, cormorants, shearwaters, and pelicans on a tranquil, cloudy day at sea. Captain Matt expertly navigated and provided insightful answers to our questions about whales, while the marine biologist (whose name I forget) was also a fantastic guide. I gained a wealth of knowledge and was truly in awe of witnessing such beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. I’m definitely planning to return with more friends soon.
We truly enjoyed our experience. We spotted two fin whales, and one swam alongside us for some time. Then playful dolphins came over to say hello. Captain Marie and her delightful companion made it extra special. Thank you for a memorable time.
Our whale watching experience with Captain Gary and First Mate Safa from Capt Dave’s Whale Watching in Dana Point, CA, was simply magical. They were incredibly knowledgeable about marine life, and we were fortunate to see pods of dolphins, along with a mother fin whale and her calf. Witnessing them together was truly amazing! It was a fantastic adventure, and I highly recommend Capt Dave’s.
I had an amazing time with Captain Matt. His knowledge was impressive, and we were lucky to see several fin whales throughout the day. It was truly epic.
