What's the itinerary?+
• IMPORTANT: Ensure you have your passports. We leave your hotel around 07:00 AM and head to the port of Los Cristianos. The Fred Olsen ferry will take us to San Sebastián de La Gomera, the island's capital. • Upon arrival in La Gomera, we will follow the southern route and make a short stop near the Roque de Agando, a distinctive rock formation unique to the island. This natural landmark, created from volcanic magma and shaped by erosion over millennia, provides impressive views, especially from its base. • Next, we will visit Garajonay National Park, home to one of the world's most significant laurel forests, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. We will walk leisurely through the forest, observing the lush greenery contrasted with the island's drier surroundings. This area is a remnant of the flora that once thrived in the Mediterranean during the Cenozoic Era, which has since disappeared from continental Europe, making it a special place to connect with nature's beauty and tranquility. • Our journey continues through Agulo, a charming northern municipality facing the Atlantic Ocean, featuring El Teide in its backdrop. La Gomera's smallest municipality rests against a striking basalt wall, presenting a lovely green "balcony" view of the sea. Agulo, known as "El bombón de La Gomera" (the sweet of La Gomera), is admired for its picturesque cobbled streets and well-maintained tiled houses surrounded by gardens. • We will head back to San Sebastián, rich in cultural history. The city's old town boasts over five centuries of heritage, including links to Christopher Columbus' discovery of the "New World" and the Castilian conquest of the island, making it a noteworthy destination in the Canary Islands. • In San Sebastián, notable historical sites include Torre del Conde, a medieval fortress and the oldest remaining building in the islands. • The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción showcases a blend of Gothic and Canarian architectural styles, serving as a true testament to sacred art. We will also pass the hermitage of San Sebastián, built around 1530, and the Casa de la Aguada, where legend states Columbus sourced water for the baptism of the New World. The Virgin of Guadalupe, the island's patron saint, is housed in her hermitage in Puntallana, where she makes a procession every five years, drawing many visitors to her celebrations. San Sebastián is distinguished by its traditional Canarian architecture and reflects over five centuries of rich religious, social, political, and military history.
