We were pleasantly surprised to have the taxi to ourselves, just the two of us, which allowed for a lovely tour. Our driver, Christian, alleviated any rush by encouraging us to take our time and enjoy the experience. We first visited Aqua Clara, the new lock, and then stopped at a scenic railway line beside the canal, offering views of the canal, Atlantic Bridge, Panama Canal Railway, and the new lock. From there, we crossed the bridge to Gatun, the old lock system, where we also had plenty of time to explore. The comments from the controller were helpful in understanding the process. On our way to Fort San Lorenzo, we had a delightful encounter with several nose bears by the road, which Christian attracted with his breakfast bread. Our return journey included a brief stop at the Atlantic Bridge and a supermarket, rounding off a great trip.
I had a personal experience on this private tour that was conducted at a relaxed pace. Our guide, Jorge, was knowledgeable, professional, and very accommodating. The upgrade to a private tour was definitely worth it. There were a few additional costs for entry fees, but these were clearly explained in advance. We also had the flexibility to spend as much time at each location as we wanted.
Jorge provided an excellent experience with a fantastic overview of the canals.
Our experience in Panama was perfect and remarkable, largely due to Jorge from Panamanian Adventures. He maintained excellent communication before and during the tour. His passion and deep knowledge shone through as he answered all our questions. We had a wonderful day exploring the Old and New Panama Canal Locks and the San Lorenzo Fort. Thank you, Jorge, for making our day in Panama so special.
This tour is fantastic, especially for those on a cruise. Rather than being stuck on a crowded bus following a strict schedule, enjoy a personalized experience that allows you to dictate the pace. Our guide, Charlie, who is of Panamanian and American descent, was excellent. Highly recommended.
The tour proved to be quite engaging and informative. Our guide, Jorge Salazar, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful. I would strongly recommend him.
Our time with Roderick was exceptional as he guided us through the Colon area, including Agua Clara and Gatun locks. His deep knowledge of the local history and the canal’s technology was impressive. Roderick was very accommodating, ensuring we experienced everything we wanted to see and even took us to lesser-known spots on this private tour. His English proficiency is excellent, and his thoughtful and kind nature allowed us to have a meaningful, in-depth experience rather than just a quick overview. We wholeheartedly recommend Roderick for anyone interested in a thorough tour of the Colon area, the Panama Canal, and its locks. Thank you, Roderick!
The old and new locks of the Panama Canal are truly captivating, showcasing both global commerce and our history. José is an excellent guide, demonstrating great knowledge and attentiveness, along with strong English skills. The Agua Clara and Gatún visitor centers are both clean and inviting. Our understanding of the canal was enhanced when our cruise ship navigated through it, thanks to this tour. The fort visit was also delightful. I would suggest this tour to anyone curious about the subject.
Although the tour included the advertised locations, it lacked proper guidance. The meeting point was incorrect, as confirmed by the provider afterwards. The driver arrived nearly 30 minutes late, and we had to inquire for updates ourselves, creating a stressful start in an uncomfortable port. Once in the van, the driver was unsure of our tour details and required us to confirm them. While the tour itself was acceptable, the driver mainly read from signs instead of offering insightful information. We felt hurried at times, yet at others, we were left confused due to poor communication. It was stated that water would be provided, but that was not the case. Overall, it was overpriced for the experience.
The tour provided a wealth of information, with José showcasing the stunning aspects of Panama's National Park. We explored both the old and new Canals, drove through Colon, and enjoyed lunch at a local eatery. The weather varied throughout the tour, offering us different conditions.
