This full-day tour showcases Panama’s Caribbean side, starting with a rainforest safari by vehicle. You'll traverse through lush landscapes rich in wildlife, where your guide facilitates stops for photography and animal spotting, making it accessible without extensive walking. The adventure then takes you to the UNESCO-listed San Lorenzo Fort, where you can delve into its fascinating history of resisting pirate attacks.
The tour concludes at the Agua Clara Locks, part of the Panama Canal Expansion, where you'll observe colossal cargo ships navigating the new locks. This segment offers insight into how the Panama Canal revolutionized global trade, bringing together nature, history, and engineering marvels in one comprehensive experience.
Reviews
The new and old locks offer a fascinating experience, especially watching the ships navigate through them. The fort was just okay.
The tour was poorly organized, using a party bus as transportation, which was unsuitable for all ages due to uncomfortable seating. The 4-hour excursion was just to see the Panama locks, only 7 miles away, and we didn't get to see the promised monkeys in the jungle or visit the fort, making it an 8-hour waste of time and money.
The experience was disappointing due to the absence of any rainforest. The bus merely stopped on the side of the road to highlight monkeys. The meeting point was confusing with no one available to help. Additionally, the bus had no identification markings, and the trip did not start on schedule. There were also no stickers provided to distinguish our group, making the whole experience feel disorganized.
Visiting the old and new locks was a fantastic experience. We spent around an hour observing the operation of the new locks before heading to the other side to learn about the workings of the old locks.
The tour did not live up to what was promised when I booked it months in advance. We ended up on a party bus that couldn't accommodate everyone, forcing two of us to sit on speakers. There was no air-conditioned van as advertised; instead, we had only four inches to see out the window. The whole experience was overcrowded, consistently late at the start and between stops, and what was supposed to be a four-hour tour extended to seven hours. It was quite disappointing.
Overall, our experience was great with a small group of 12 individuals, including my wife and me. However, one aspect that was a bit uncomfortable was that most of the group spoke Spanish, leaving only two of us as English speakers, which meant the guide often spoke in Spanish.
The tour of the Agua Clara and Gutan Locks was fantastic. The rainforest was vibrant, and we spotted monkeys and anteaters. Visiting the San Lorenzo fort was fascinating as well. Our guides were very informative and explained everything thoroughly, plus they surprised us with homemade empanadas to enjoy.
If you're cruising through the Panama Canal, I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Elio, brought us to both locks in Colón, helping us see and understand the workings of the canal. It enhanced our experience going through the canal the following day.
Arsenio was an excellent guide, always checking if we had questions or special requests. He made an extra effort to show us a lot of wildlife and was very well-informed about the history and culture.
This tour was excellent. It included all the information we could possibly need, with a well-informed host and a fantastic driver. I highly recommend booking it; you won't regret it.
