Two hours — guided bus tour to McCullough Peaks, learn about Cody's history with opportunities to spot wildlife such as pronghorn antelope and wild mustangs.
This guided bus tour takes you for two hours through the striking landscapes of McCullough Peaks, departing from Cody. Check-in is required 15 minutes prior to the start, where the specialist guide will share insights into the area's rich history involving figures like Buffalo Bill Cody and John Colter.
As you navigate through extinct geyser areas and the Wyoming Badlands, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including pronghorn antelope, coyotes, and the wild mustangs that roam the picturesque terrain. It's wise to wear closed shoes since part of the tour includes walking through the desert areas. This provides a unique opportunity to witness the history and natural beauty of Wyoming.
Reviews
The guide was pleasant and shared a lot of useful information, but I felt we were too far from the horses. We could have been positioned closer to them, or the tour should not advertise that aspect.
The mustang tour was a fantastic experience. We encountered 35 of the region's 180 mustangs, along with some pronghorns. Kim provided insightful information about the horses' care, and the overall experience was quite comfortable.
From the moment I made the booking, the experience was wonderful and seamless. Our guide was charming and brought us up close to the horses, providing plenty of information along the way. Reaching the top of the canyon offered a truly stunning view.
This was an excellent tour, showcasing three different herds of wild horses, including some notable fighting. The commentary was both enjoyable and informative. I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 because I think they should mention a few important points: A) besides wearing closed shoes, long pants are advisable to avoid having stickers and sage brush cling to you (I used light spandex/nylon and they stuck all over me); B) if walking is a challenge, you'll need to get out of the vehicle or you'll miss the discussion and a closer view of the horses; C) your transport may vary among a van, truck, or an open-air safari vehicle, and all options can make it tricky to get in and out. Overall, I’m glad we participated in this tour and would suggest it to others.
Sherry, our driver, did an excellent job, sharing interesting history and facts during our trip. We successfully spotted a herd of horses and a few small groups of pronghorn antelope. It was a lovely evening, and we truly enjoyed the beauty of Wyoming's badlands.
The guide was excellent, but the vehicle left much to be desired. The air conditioning was ineffective, and it sounded like it might break down. There weren't enough binoculars for everyone, and no spotting scopes were provided. Additionally, only one bottle of water was offered per person for a three-hour tour. While we did see horses, the overall experience could have been enhanced, particularly considering the price.
The tour was fantastic. Burns provided a wealth of information, and we spotted a herd of wild mustangs. We captured amazing photos, and the scenery was stunning. I truly enjoyed the experience.
Seeing the stunning horses, including two different herds, was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Burns, shared fascinating and informative insights. Thank you, Burns!
Discovering the countryside and its landscape was fantastic. Observing animals in their natural habitat made for an exciting day trip. The driver and his wife were both friendly and well-informed. It was a truly wonderful experience.
The guide was both friendly and knowledgeable. We encountered two herds of wild horses—one at a distance and the other up close. I highly recommend this tour.
