The tour of Chur was excellent. Our guide, Barbara, was wonderful, making the experience both enjoyable and informative. It was an ideal way to spend an hour exploring this delightful town.
Our exploration of Chur was incredible, thanks to our guide Martin. He shared extensive insights into the city's history and architecture while leading us to both well-known and hidden gems. His recommendations for local food and drinks were much appreciated. It was a wonderful kickoff to our journey!
The tour of Chur was excellent. Our guide, Barbara, was both friendly and well-informed. This 60-minute experience offered a delightful introduction to the town during our brief stay.
We enjoyed a pleasant 90-minute walking tour that provided some intriguing insights about Chur's connection to the Romans. It would have been beneficial if the tour description mentioned that 90% of the town burned down in the 14th century, as it altered my expectations of the architecture. There is a wealth of history and stories that could be presented in a more engaging way, as at times the town reminded me of "Pillars of the Earth," particularly regarding the cathedral's construction and renovations over time. While we visited interesting sites, the narrative could have had more energy to fully explore the town's rich history.
Hans provided an excellent walking tour of the charming city of Chur. His deep knowledge allowed us to gain a historical understanding of the area, and even within the 90-minute timeframe, he managed to cover a wide range of information about the city.
The tour guide passionately shares his affection for Chur's history, enriched with local stories and music. With origins tracing back to the Stone Age, this town has been pivotal in trade routes between Germany and Austria, France, and Italy. The guide details how this small village transitioned from a feudal system to a self-governing council that represented local guilds. The area has hosted a bishop since 400 A.D. while also embracing a reformed Protestant church, with its two main buildings situated just blocks apart. Additionally, the guide offers a great overview of the local German and Romansch languages, highlighting the various dialects through the folk songs performed.
Barbara was incredibly gracious and extremely helpful throughout the tour. It was a wonderful experience, and she was very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this to others.
