Approximately three hours at a family estate — vineyard tour, wine tasting, and a private picnic featuring local delicacies and estate wine in Chinon.
This unique experience takes place at Château du Petit Thouars, located just 10 minutes from Chinon. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walk through the vineyard, where you’ll learn about the Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc grapes. The visit includes the charming 15th-century troglodyte cellar and a wine tasting in the château courtyard.
The highlight is a beautifully arranged private picnic, featuring a generous lunch with fresh salads, deli meats, cheeses, and a local Chinon dessert, paired with a bottle of estate wine. Dietary requirements can be accommodated. In cooler months, the picnic is set in a cozy, candlelit indoor space with sheepskins and blankets. This experience is hosted by the Count and Countess, who have managed the estate since 1636.

Spending a few hours in the peaceful Loire Valley was a delightful experience. The owner provided a wealth of knowledge and was very approachable, speaking fantastic English. The tour was both excellent and informative. Even as someone who doesn’t usually drink wine, I found all the samples to be delightful. We enjoyed the tour followed by a picnic, which offered great value for money. My partner's bucket list item was successfully checked off. The picnic spot was stunning, and the food was impeccable.
Our visit was truly delightful and we were warmly welcomed. It was inspiring to experience a family-run chateau and winery, operated with such dedication by its owners. After a fascinating history of the chateau and the family, who have maintained it since the 15th century, Sebastian led a very friendly and insightful tasting of their red and white wines. We found all of them to be excellent, particularly the complex aged red ‘l’Amiral’. The lunch featuring local pates and cheeses was also impressive, complemented by a bottle of St Georges red. We highly recommend this informative and friendly experience for anyone in the Loire region. 10/10.
The owner and guide at the small winery were fantastic. We enjoyed a lovely picnic paired with excellent wine, and the family's history added an intriguing touch.
Having a picnic in the vineyard was an incredible experience. We received a history of the chateau, toured the wine cellar, enjoyed a tasting, and were presented with a basket of delicious treats. My wife and I had a lovely lunch at a quiet table amidst the vines.
Sebastian was charming and friendly. Enjoying a picnic among the vines was the perfect touch; I couldn't have chosen a better spot, and I left with three bottles of wine.
This tour was truly one of the highlights of our time in France. The host was friendly and engaging, making the small group setting feel intimate. The discussions were both intriguing and personal. The wines were outstanding. For the picnic, we separated from the group and enjoyed a wonderful meal with a stunning view just for us. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a romantic escape in one of France's most enchanting areas.
We appreciated the historical insights about the chateau and its resident family. The vineyard and cellar tour was very informative. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable about the estate's operations. The wines were excellent; we purchased a few. The picnic was superb.
The vineyard offered a wonderful experience, starting with a tasting of various wines after observing the winemaking process. We enjoyed a private picnic featuring local delicacies and a full bottle of wine to share. The highlight was Biscuits, the charming cat from the property, who accompanied us throughout our visit. It was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend.
This experience is a must during your time in Chinon. The family's 13 generations of winemaking add incredible history to the tour, and Sebastian introduced us to five exquisite wines. The range of flavors from a single grape, Cabernet Franc, was surprising. We also enjoyed a candlelit lunch filled with delicious food and wine. It was an unforgettable afternoon; we had a fantastic time. Thank you!
I had a wonderful afternoon exploring the beauty of this vineyard chateau. The owner provided an excellent tour of the winery, sharing fascinating details about his family's long history there. It's clear how dedicated the family is throughout the entire process, from planting to bottling. The wine and picnic were exquisite—delicious food in a fantastic garden setting! I highly recommend this experience for anyone wanting a relaxing afternoon.
