Two hours at Château du Petit Thouars — guided vineyard walk, troglodyte cellar tour, and wine tasting with local specialties served al fresco in the courtyard.
This two-hour tour at Château du Petit Thouars, located just 10 minutes from Chinon, immerses you in the estate's wine heritage. The experience begins with a stroll through the AOC Chinon vineyards, where you'll learn about the Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc varietals. Afterward, explore the unique 15th-century troglodyte cellar before settling in the courtyard for a wine tasting paired with regional delicacies.
This personalized tour is hosted by the Count and Countess, who have been guardians of this family estate since 1636. Tours are available in English, French, and Spanish, providing an intimate setting to understand their passion for the local culture and wine. Comfortable footwear is advisable for the vineyard walk.

Reviews
We arranged a tour with a tasting at this cellar, which started with the family history, followed by a visit to the vineyard and cellar, concluding with the tasting for 25 euros. The entire experience was terrible: the place was run-down, dirty, and in disrepair. The restroom area was unacceptable, and the vineyard was poorly maintained. The cellar's condition was also unsatisfactory, and the vehicles were not in good shape. Moreover, the tour was rushed, leaving no time for questions. The tasting was equally hurried, and I noticed the owner's daughter eating the guests' bruschetta. This venue has great potential if properly maintained, but as a professional sommelier, I am deeply offended by the experience.
Sebastian is a friendly and welcoming host with excellent English skills. His enthusiasm and knowledge about his family heritage, the Château, and the wines were outstanding. The five wines we tasted, along with the delicious food pairings, were exceptional. I highly recommend this experience.
Sebastian is a very friendly individual who made us feel right at home, and his English was top-notch. He skillfully transitioned between French and English and his humor was fantastic. The small group size enhanced our experience. Sebastian’s passion and insights about his heritage, the château, and the wine were outstanding. We enjoyed a delicious tasting of five wines paired with tasty snacks. Special accommodations were made for my partner, who is a coeliac. We ended up purchasing quite a bit of wine, along with some glasses and other items, so we were glad to have a car. I highly recommend this experience.
We had a fantastic experience at the winery with Sebastian as our guide. It was just us, which made the behind-the-scenes tour even more special. We strolled through the vineyard and explored the caves before tasting six wines accompanied by some snacks—a lovely family-owned property.
We had a lovely time during our visit, and our host provided excellent service. The estate is stunning, as is the castle, which we were unable to explore. The exterior walls are adorned with beautiful gargoyles and statues. The owner is truly passionate about the vineyards and his heritage, and he was more than willing to answer our questions. We greatly appreciated tasting the superb wines. Additionally, it was nice to have the estate's cat accompany us on the tour. We would love to return and explore further.
The tour was delightful, led by an owner who was both passionate and involved. It may not be glamorous, but its simplicity added to the overall charm, despite its run-down appearance.
This family-owned estate offers a relaxed atmosphere and a variety of excellent wines from the region. Sebastien, the winemaker, guided us through the estate, sharing intriguing historical insights and details about the vineyards and winemaking techniques. He provided clear context for the wines in relation to the terroir and vintage, making him a fantastic host. Our tour lasted about 2.5 hours, although this may vary as we enjoyed a leisurely pace. While credit card payments are accepted, the machine was malfunctioning during our visit, so it's wise to bring cash as a backup option.
We enjoyed a delightful 90 minutes with the Count. Hearing about the castle's history and his family was fascinating, but what stood out was the insights into the ecological cultivation of the vines. The highlight was undoubtedly tasting the wines and touring the cellars.
We were pleasantly surprised by this wine tasting event, which exceeded our expectations. Sebastian, the owner of the vineyard and chateau, was friendly and relaxed. His pride in his family's chateau and the long history of winemaking was evident. The wine was truly memorable. I strongly recommend this experience.
Sebastian, the owner, warmly welcomed us. His insights into the castle's history were captivating. The tour of the vineyards and cellar provided a thorough understanding of the vinification process. The experience concluded with a tasting that included remarks and comparisons about everything we explored. I highly recommend the epicurean tour.
