This was our first time on a fireflies tour, and it was a fantastic experience. The whole trip was well organized and managed by the team. I highly recommend it.
Hafiz demonstrated a great enthusiasm for fireflies during a brief, engaging, and informative talk before our boat ride. We were unsure of what to expect, but seeing the fireflies lighting up the trees resembled Christmas lights and thrilled us. Then, Hafiz worked his magic, and the fireflies gathered around us, creating an enchanting atmosphere. It felt surreal when they landed on our hands, clothes, and faces. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area—it's not to be missed. Also, avoid using insect repellent as fireflies are insects you definitely want to attract. Be mindful not to use your phone for photos; the light can disturb the fireflies and temporarily blind passengers because of the surrounding darkness. Just savor the moment.
I felt let down because there weren't many fireflies. The stormy weather likely contributed to this, as I understand nature can be unpredictable. However, the real issue was the boat exhaust; we had to breathe in fumes for nearly an hour while moving slowly in six boats. Electric motors would have been a much better fit for this activity.
The phone number provided is incorrect, and the pinned location is not precise, making it challenging for foreigners to find a taxi. However, the firefly experience was excellent.
This experience is strongly recommended. It's incredible to be so near to these tiny glowing creatures. Some even landed on your hand. They may be small, but their presence is undeniable.
There are numerous firefly tours across Malaysia, but this one is definitely the most authentic, as other tours may use LED lights instead of real fireflies, like the one at Muar River. The tour guides were very friendly and provided a helpful briefing on fireflies before the tour, enhancing our understanding. The river cruise on Cherating lasts about 30 minutes, during which the guide used a special light to attract real fireflies, creating a magical experience. The guide made multiple stops along different sections of the river, effectively drawing the fireflies close to the boat, which was truly delightful. Having experienced firefly tours in various countries such as India, Vietnam, and Taiwan, I can confidently say this is the best because the guide had a unique ability to engage with the fireflies.
My friend booked the Hafiz Cherating tour via WhatsApp prior to our arrival. The ticket cost was RM45 per person for a one-hour boat ride on the river to observe fireflies. The firefly species here are smaller compared to those in Kuala Selangor, where the lights resemble Christmas tree decorations. Although the fireflies in Cherating produced smaller blinking lights, Hafiz and his boatmen used a red light to attract them closer.
Hafiz was a fantastic tour guide; he was knowledgeable and kept everyone captivated. The boat ride was enchanting, with plenty of fireflies to admire.
There were not many fireflies, but the mangrove sailing was enjoyable. There were several canoes out at once, and we even experienced a boat accident, which was more frightening than damaging.
I had an amazing time watching fireflies and exploring the mangroves in Cherating. The entire experience was well-coordinated, and our guide was very knowledgeable. Observing the fireflies was enchanting, and the mangrove tour was both serene and enlightening. It was definitely worth the cost and thoroughly enjoyable.
