Two to three hours of walking — taste classic PEI dishes from top restaurants while learning about the island's culture and history.
This food and history walking tour explores Charlottetown's culinary scene and rich heritage over two to three hours. Led by local guides, you will sample iconic dishes from the island's best restaurants. Note that portions are tasting sizes rather than full meals, so consider your appetite when planning.
As you move from stop to stop, expect to learn about the cultural significance of each dish and how they shape local identity. There may also be a takeout or picnic-style stop at Water Prince Corner Shop during busy periods. Make sure to inform about any food allergies in advance for possible substitutions.
Reviews
My wife and I really enjoy walking food tours, and Charlottetown was no different. Ken's commentary was exceptional; his local insights into the area's history were remarkable, and his stories added a personal touch. The food was top-notch and delicious. Overall, it was a truly meaningful experience and a great use of our time.
Dress appropriately for unpredictable weather and wear comfortable footwear. The food experience was excellent, and our tour guide was highly accommodating.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the various food stops. If shellfish isn't your thing, this might not be for you, but I ended up loving mussels. The lobster rolls were outstanding, and every stop was enjoyable. Our guide, a local, shared a wealth of information about the island. The city parks were beautiful, and the fall foliage was stunning! It was an excellent choice and our best day yet.
The tour guide had extensive knowledge of the area, and his over 50 years of experience on the island really enhanced the quality of the tour.
We had a great time on our food walking tour. Although our group of 17 felt a little large, it remained mostly manageable. Our guide, Mark, a PEI native, shared many engaging stories and historical insights. The food was both delightful and satisfying, showing that a lot of effort went into making the experience enjoyable. However, we experienced a delay at the restaurant serving the lobster rolls, which extended the tour time a bit and was a slight inconvenience. In the end, we would definitely recommend this tour.
Mark was an outstanding guide, providing insightful history about PEI. The food was delicious, especially the lobster, mussels, and the oysters that my husband sampled. It was a lot of fun and truly enjoyable.
The tour lasted 2.5 hours and included one meal, so it's advisable to arrive with a good appetite. It's excellent for those interested in the history of Prince Edward Island, but if you're seeking culinary history or simply good food, it may fall short. The meal featured four courses: PEI mussels, half a lobster roll with egg and potato salad, a Malbec oyster paired with a shot of moonshine, and a chocolate bar to take home.
Mark provided an exceptional guiding experience, sharing rich local history along with fantastic food. The beautiful weather and the presence of just one other couple made it feel like a truly personalized tour.
Trying PEI mussels, a lobster roll, potato salad, oysters, and moonshine created an amazing experience. Our charming guide enhanced the tour by sharing a wealth of historical insights.
This tour was fantastic. We enjoyed delicious mussels, a lobster roll, and oysters at three distinct restaurants. Our guide, Josh, shared a wealth of knowledge about Charlottetown’s history and displayed a strong passion for P.E.I., being a 9th generation local. I highly recommend it!
