The staff was fantastic—very helpful and enjoyable to be around. The children had a great time catching a large bucket of fish. I highly recommend this tour.
After seeing rave reviews from a local Facebook group, I chose to book the excursion. Unfortunately, the only highlight was the onboard staff, who were patient and knowledgeable. They had to manage a family whose kids ran rampant while others were trying to fish. We gave them a sizable tip, knowing they likely don’t earn enough to handle such unruly behavior. Now for the negatives. The bathrooms were filthy, and it was unacceptable, especially since we went on an afternoon trip; perhaps they don’t clean between excursions, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. I called ahead to confirm the availability of air-conditioning, food, and drinks, as stated on their website, and received confirmation. We were a group of five, including a special needs adult and my elderly mother. They are seasoned fishers and were aware of the conditions. After two hours, my mother needed to cool off, but the indoor area, with open doors, was just as humid as outside. As for the supposed snack area, it barely existed. The only options were a box of chips located near a dirty area for cleaning fish. There were no hot dogs, ice cream, or other snacks, and certainly no beer, soda, or cocktails. They did provide water, which was a positive. If those items are not going to be available, don’t advertise them. Additionally, the boat was old and poorly maintained inside, and there were too many people on board. We were often just two feet apart, making it difficult to fish without lines tangling with those nearby. We found ourselves spending more time untangling lines than actually fishing. Living here, I was advised against public trips for such reasons, and to consider private excursions instead, which allow access to smaller channels and prevent line tangling. This experience taught us a lesson: don’t trust what their website claims. For all these reasons, I cannot recommend the Miss Chris.
Our family of four, consisting of two adults and two teenagers, had a great time on this outing. Even though two of us weren't fishing enthusiasts, we still found it enjoyable. You're allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks, and there are some available for purchase onboard. We noticed others had coolers to store their catch, which we hadn't anticipated, so that's something to consider. Although we didn't catch anything large, we caught plenty and loved being on the water, even spotting the Cape May Lighthouse from our boat.
