Reviews
The audio tour provided great value for the cost. During our drive along the Cabot Trail, we gained valuable insights and discovered some hidden stops that we wouldn't have found without it.
The guided tour was both engaging and entertaining, managing to hold the attention of the teenagers as well. I appreciated the flexibility to pause the tour for breaks, side trips, and hikes. I'm excited to explore more options as we visit other destinations.
The price is excellent, and having a dedicated guide available while traveling in a private car is very convenient. While I had some difficulty with the download and playback process, I eventually managed it. The guide proved to be quite helpful for the trail.
I found the process of downloading the tour to be complicated and ultimately unsuccessful. I had to call for assistance twice, only to be transferred to the audio tour operator without resolution. It was time-consuming and quite frustrating. The tour itself was satisfactory.
I have purchased multiple "GuideAlong" tours for national parks like Yellowstone and Acadia, and I acquired the TripVia tour for Nova Scotia's Cabot Trail expecting a similar experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The main issue is that the tour only functions effectively if you drive counter-clockwise on the trail, while we traveled clockwise. This forced me to keep resetting the position on the tour, which became cumbersome and inconvenient. Ultimately, I transitioned from manually adjusting the audio to reading the text aloud, and then abandoned it altogether. Fortunately, the tour wasn’t costly, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially for those driving clockwise on the Cabot Trail.
The tour encounters significant technical issues due to inconsistent cell coverage, which prevents the audio and photo features from functioning. While it's possible to download maps and text for each location in advance, that's about the extent of the preparation. Additionally, the tour involves at least 50% descriptions of the trails.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail, making numerous stops along the way. Starting in Halifax, we visited Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, Hall's Harbour, Burntcoat Head Park (home to the world's highest recorded tides), Wolfville (known for its wineries), Truro, and continued to Baddeck, Ingonish, Cheticamp, and the breathtaking Skyline Trail, before heading back to Halifax via Antigonish. We hiked some wonderful trails, encountered four waterfalls, and indulged in plenty of lobster, Digby scallops, mussels, and other fresh seafood. We also highly recommend the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and harbor cruise in Baddeck, Highland Village, the wineries near Wolfville, the gondola and mountain lake hike in Ingonish, and taking the Cabot Trail in a counterclockwise direction. The locals were incredibly friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning to discover more of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
Having previously driven the Cabot Trail, I was unaware of all the sights we overlooked until this road trip tour. The insights on history, fun activities, and scenic or shopping spots were invaluable. We're excited for more road trips using this guide. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling the Cabot Trail.
The audio guide was perfect for us while we drove counterclockwise on the iPad. It didn't function as well on Android, but it was an excellent way to learn about the entire trail. Very well executed!
The guide provided valuable insights during our drive on the Cabot Trail. I appreciated the informative commentary and learned quite a bit. I would recommend it for anyone experiencing the Cabot Trail for the first time.
