Half-day tour from Baddeck featuring Highland Village and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, with scenic views of the Bras d'Or lakes.
This half-day tour begins with a guided visit to the Highland Village, where you’ll learn about the early Scottish settlers and their connection with the Mi'kmaq people. After that, you'll head to Baddeck, known for its charm as Nova Scotia's most picturesque village. Here, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum offers fascinating insights into the inventor's life and work.
As you drive through the stunning scenery of the Bras d'Or lakes Biosphere, you’ll witness impressive views of the ocean and mountains. Make sure to check your ship’s arrival time when booking, as the tour starts half an hour after you reach the dock, where your guide will be waiting with a Blackwood Tours sign.
Reviews
This tour was fantastic. With just four of us plus our guide/driver, it offered an excellent overview of the area. The Highlands are stunning, and the museum provided insightful information about the Scots' migration and the challenges they encountered. The Bell museum was also very educational. Our guide recommended a wonderful restaurant for us to enjoy lunch.
The tour to the Highland village, Baddeck, and the Alexander Graham Bell museum was fantastic. Our guide, Francie, was wonderful and shared so much information. We truly appreciated every location and had an excellent day. Thank you.
We enjoyed a fantastic and entertaining day on this tour. Our guide, Michael, was both engaging and full of knowledge. We highly recommend this experience to everyone.
This tour was excellent. The views were breathtaking, and the Bell museum was impressive. We enjoyed a lovely lunch. Mike Syms, our guide, was local and very informed, plus he had a wonderful sense of humor. I highly recommend this tour.
This small group tour by Blackwood Tours in Sydney, Nova Scotia was exceptional. Our guide Jim met us at the cruise ship dock and led us through an informative journey with ten fellow travelers. He shared insights about the city and our itinerary while keeping everyone on track. I particularly enjoyed the Highland Village, a living history museum highlighting the culture of Nova Scotia Gaels; I could have easily spent more time there, as the views were stunning. We also had a delicious lunch in Baddek before visiting the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site to explore his life and inventions. It was a fantastic way to experience a beautiful fall day in Nova Scotia, Canada.
We visited two locations, but ended up having lunch on our own. The Bell Museum felt more like reading Wikipedia, so we opted to explore the nearby town instead of spending over an hour there. While Highland Village was pleasant, it lacked the music that was promised. Overall, I didn’t find this tour to be a good value, although the guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
I was quite let down by this tour. The driver, who had just started with the company two weeks prior, didn’t provide us with any insights about the countryside or its history throughout the day. While he conversed with the passenger in the front seat, the rest of us in the minibus were left out. My main issue was with his poor time management. At the Highland village stop, he mentioned we would stay for "about an hour." Fourteen of us returned on time, but we ended up waiting an extra 20 minutes because two people were late, and the driver didn’t address their delay. This resulted in less time for the rest of the itinerary. I expected a guided tour but ultimately felt like we just had a driver who remained silent.
This tour was exceptional. Mike proved to be a fantastic guide and a capable driver. We appreciated the breathtaking views of autumn foliage, an enlightening visit to the Alexander Graham Bell museum, a tasty lunch at a local family eatery (self-funded), and an informative exploration of a Gaelic Scottish village. The scenery was stunning all along the way.
The guide provided an abundance of information that we appreciated, delving into great detail. He also shared many of his personal experiences from growing up in the area.
The experience was pleasant overall. The bus was clean, and there was enough time to explore key points of interest. The driver was safe. One suggestion would be for the driver to consistently use a microphone so that those seated in the back could hear him clearly.
