Six-hour guided tour of the Cabot Trail, showcasing ocean vistas and fishing villages, starting 30 minutes after ship arrival.
A six-hour tour along the renowned Cabot Trail, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse into the charm of Cape Breton. The tour begins 30 minutes after your ship arrives, so it’s essential to book in alignment with the cruise schedule. You will have a half-hour window to reach your guide at the dock.
Expect winding roads that rise from the sea and cling to the mountains, interspersed with trails and scenic stops. While the timeline for each stop may vary, you’ll encounter tranquil fishing villages and local artisans. Keep in mind the tour is designed around your cruise timing, making it a convenient option for those arriving by ship.

The van ride felt excessively long due to continuous talking for almost seven hours. While the itinerary included enjoyable stops at a chocolate shop and a glass-blowing place, Mike suggested we grab lunch from a store, allowing for a pleasant meal break. However, a reduction in personal anecdotes and political views would have been preferable. It's common for tour guides to dial back on commentary during the return leg, especially on a familiar route.
Mike was fantastic. He brought a lot of fun to the experience, was a bit goofy, and showed great knowledge and friendliness. His genuine enthusiasm to be with us made the time even more enjoyable.
The drive was really pleasant, but it felt quite lengthy. Out of the six-hour tour, five hours were dedicated to driving. The tour guide was excellent and provided us with plenty of local insights.
The drive was lengthy and not particularly engaging. There was no lunch break, which was anticipated, yet the driver was knowledgeable and provided good information.
A fantastic opportunity to explore the area's key attractions. The scenery was stunning and the stops were engaging. Our guide was very flexible and took us to more places than we anticipated.
We had a wonderful day for this trip, surrounded by stunning fall colors. Although it involved a long drive, Michael took great care to ensure our comfort. The beautiful weather made the scenery truly magnificent.
The foliage tour of the Cabot Trail was fantastic, showcasing stunning scenery. Our guide, Michael, truly enhanced the experience with his wealth of information and engaging personality. Being a local from Cape Breton, he shared rich historical insights and took us to the best viewing spots.
This was the highlight of our cruise! The small group and van made the experience far more enjoyable compared to larger bus tours. Our guide, Jim, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, having lived in the area for years. He was receptive to our questions and ensured we had time for photos, even taking some of us together. We made several stops, including a fantastic sandwich shop, a family-run Belgian chocolate shop, and a glass-blowing studio. Jim also pulled over at every major viewpoint. The autumn colors were breathtaking! With fewer than 20 in our group, we never felt rushed. As a travel advisor, I will definitely recommend this tour to my clients.
The drive was incredibly scenic, although reaching the best viewpoints took a bit of time. Our guide, Mike, was not only friendly but also shared insightful information as a native of Cape Breton.
I booked this tour directly through Blackwood Tours' website, and the price was significantly lower than what's shown elsewhere. Robert was prompt in his communication, making the whole process straightforward. Michael met me right off the ship, easily identifiable in his red shirt with a sign that had my name. The minibus was great, accommodating eight people, and with large windows to take in the stunning views. There were only five of us on the tour since a group of three had canceled. Thankfully, the weather was perfect, allowing us to enjoy breathtaking scenery throughout the trip. Michael drove the minibus and provided a clear running commentary through a microphone. I found his insights—combining personal, social, historical, and local information—delivered with both clarity and humor to be exceptional. He was very accommodating, allowing us to stop whenever desired, and was flexible with the established itinerary to cater to our group's preferences. His stops included excellent photo opportunities and local interest places, such as a chocolate shop, along with restroom and coffee stops, which were offered, even if my group didn’t need many. We had a nice break at a lovely cafe/bakery in the morning, perfect for those who appreciate artisan baked goods. Another chance for lunch was available at a mini-market store near the beach, where you could find coffee and a variety of supermarket items like sandwiches. We found outdoor seating at the beach to enjoy our lunch and had time for some personal exploration. Though the tour was set for six hours, our enthusiasm extended it to seven and a half hours at no extra cost. Michael was attentive to the ship's departure time, ensuring we had no worries about missing it. He even made an extra stop at the other cruise ship terminal for photo opportunities with the fiddle before returning us to our ship. This experience felt tailored to us, and I can't recommend it enough for adventurous souls eager to discover Cape Breton through the eyes of a knowledgeable local. Thanks to Blackwood Tours and Michael for an unforgettable and enjoyable day.
