During our cruise stop in Sydney, Nova Scotia, my husband and another couple joined this tour. Our guide, Jim, provided excellent insights about his hometown. The drive to the Louisbourg Fortress was enjoyable, especially with perfect weather. The fortress itself was a highlight of our trip. We were captivated by the reenactors portraying the French settlers from the mid-1700s. It took us around 2.5 to 3 hours to explore, and we loved every moment. Before our visit, Jim took us to a local bakery for lunch, and we had a pleasant picnic on the fortress lawns. Afterward, Jim highlighted many local attractions, including Havenside with its stunning lighthouse, while sharing stories about Sydney and his upbringing there. We were extremely satisfied with Jim and the tour, especially since it was his first one. Great job, Jim, and thank you for a memorable day!
We had a wonderful day at the Fortress of Louisbourg, and Bob was a fantastic guide. Exploring the site was fascinating, and visiting the lighthouse was a highlight. With only a handful of others present, it provided a perfect opportunity for photos and enjoying the stunning views of the harbor.
Our experience with this tour was disappointing since it was canceled just a day before we were scheduled to go. Although we accepted that cancellations can occur, we were offered a full refund or a different tour, which we chose to take.
The drive from the port to Fort Louisbourg took about half an hour, during which our guide Mike shared insights into the history we were about to explore. Upon arrival, we found an impressively well-preserved and restored fort. We received thorough departure instructions and had ample time to roam around. Enthusiastic reenactors in historical attire provided a wealth of information, and the demonstrations were captivating. On the return journey, Mike continued sharing fascinating details about the region, showcasing his deep pride in its history as a lifelong resident. He even took us to see the second oldest lighthouse in North America.
Rob provided excellent service. He picked us up directly from the port in an 8-seater bus and took us right to the fort, even dropping us by the entrance to maximize our time there. We arrived early enough to schedule an additional guided tour, which concluded just in time for us to see the midday cannon fire. We had around three hours at the fort, and Rob was very accommodating regarding how long we could stay. On our way back to the port, we stopped at the lighthouse for photos, with Rob kindly offering to take a group picture. We then continued with our guided tour and were returned to the port with plenty of time before our ship departed.
Lunch on the North Shore was excellent. The guides at Louisbourg were enjoyable, and our guide stood out for being both knowledgeable and friendly. Louisbourg is definitely a place worth visiting.
I was pleased that our group had just four people; six would have made it quite cramped in the minivan, especially getting into the third row.
Ron serves as a driver rather than a tour guide. We participated in the Louisbourg walking tour run by the park, but customers should know that Ron does not provide tours of the fort itself.
We had an excellent tour with Francine, who provided us with extensive information and ample time at each location. The sites we visited were exactly what we hoped for. During our second visit to Sydney, we found the port town lacking in options, so we were eager to see more.
Mike provided a wealth of information and was an excellent guide. I would definitely recommend this tour, as we managed to see all the sights we were eager to explore.
