What's the itinerary?+
• The journey commences at Middle Pier, boarding the Morning in Maine ketch at 9:00 AM. Morning winds are generally calm, providing smooth sailing and great opportunities for wildlife observation during the departure. This is also the return point of the tour. • Shortly after leaving, the vessel will pass a historic lighthouse located at the end of the nearly mile-long Rockland Breakwater. It can be viewed from the water as part of the scenic route to Monroe Island. • Another significant landmark along the way is an iconic cliffside lighthouse that offers classic views of the Maine coastline while en route to Monroe Island. • After about 1 hour of sailing, the boat arrives at Monroe Island, a 250-acre nature preserve overseen by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Guests will be taken ashore using a 12-ft tender. They have 2–2.5 hours to hike, beachcomb, or explore trails that navigate through rocky shores, lush forests, and granite cliffs. • The journey continues into Penobscot Bay to view some of Monroe’s rugged granite bluffs while lunch is enjoyed, followed by a swift sail back to Rockland with the afternoon breeze. Guests may assist with raising the sails and steering the vessel as the engine is turned off, allowing for a refreshing saltwater experience. The return to Middle Pier in Rockland is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
