The buggies were in poor condition, constantly veering left due to being rusty and damaged. During the tour, they stalled twice, and the overall experience felt boring and slow. Much of the ride was spent driving through town, and when we finally reached a more exciting part, we had to stop at a beach for 45 minutes. We regret taking this tour; the only enjoyable moments were making a couple of splashes in the water. I suggest opting for a different company that offers better-maintained buggies, as there are many with safer equipment.
The pick-up was punctual, and the driver was enjoyable. The beach we visited was stunning, and the cold beer was nice. However, I left feeling disappointed. I empathized with the locals in the neighborhood who had to endure noisy buggies passing by their homes multiple times a day. I hope they receive some compensation. The litter was disheartening; while I understand this is a developing country, we tourists must be more mindful of our plastic waste. The buggy's steering was faulty, and after already overpaying for the ride, paying an additional $5 for bandanas seemed excessive; they could have included a 50-cent bandana. The seat belts appeared to be haphazardly secured. The guides mostly facilitated transport without much interaction, and they rushed us through puddles that were tough to navigate if you get motion sickness. The odors ranged from decayed animals to cow manure, which we seemed to drive through. We faced over a half-hour wait for our return ride. I wish there was a cleaner route in the hills away from the hectic areas and garbage. It pains me to share such a negative review, but this experience was quite disappointing.
We had an incredible time. This was one of my favorite excursions ever. Be prepared to get muddy—we underestimated it, but it was truly worth it.
We had an incredible time! Fortunately, it rained just before our ride, so we enjoyed splashing through muddy puddles. We encountered mud and dirt in areas that rarely see sunlight.
It's best to avoid this attraction. The buggies are poorly maintained, and the harnesses don't work properly. You'll drive through a rundown area that highlights the poverty of the region. The guide warns that you'll be driving through muddy areas filled with cow manure and suggests purchasing a bandana for five dollars. The drive itself is alongside a busy highway, splashing through mud and waste. At the beach, the bathroom situation is dire, resembling a hole in the ground with no running water or sanitation supplies—definitely bring your own wipes and toilet paper. Vendors on the beach are aggressive and unlicensed, unlike those at Sosúa and Cabarete. Prices for drinks are inflated, but you may save by using pesos and pretending to speak Spanish. After navigating back against traffic, there's a chance to take pictures on a rock over the river, which you can purchase. Overall, I'm very disappointed. There are allegedly better tours that actually visit a beach and dunes, unlike this one. However, I will say that the staff were incredibly friendly.
The drivers and tour guides were extremely polite. We traveled along back roads to reach the beach. To finish off the trip, we enjoyed a shot of mama Juana before being taken back in a taxi.
I found this experience disappointing. It was only 2 hours long instead of the promised 3. We drove on public streets and had to wait an hour before starting. I would have preferred a shorter, less expensive option.
Upon arriving in Puerto Plata on our ship, we met our guide at the pier and were taken to our transportation, which took around 30 minutes to reach the venue. The guide informed us that we would get quite dirty, and soon we were in our buggies with helmets on and secured. The dirt track was muddy with large puddles. While we had to pause for some slower drivers, we enjoyed a good speed overall. We made a brief stop for coffee and to purchase local souvenirs before heading to the beach for a swim if desired. On the return journey, rain began to fall, adding to the fun. We ended up quite muddy, but there was a spot to clean up before boarding our ship again. I've seen complaints about the condition of the buggies and venue, but considering it's a Caribbean island, I understand the challenges they face. The staff were friendly and polite. We had an excellent time and would certainly do it again. I highly recommend this experience.
Anthony arranged everything for my excursion, including a pickup on a four-wheeler since I was traveling alone. Samalee and Chino were fantastic, guiding me and helping me get ready for a fun time. It was truly exceptional. We cruised through a section of the Pueblo, with a stop at Los Mangos for fresh fruit, coffee, and chocolate. I picked up some souvenirs, and we continued on our journey, splashing through small river puddles which felt refreshing in the heat. Finally, we reached the beach for food and swimming. An overall incredible experience.
This was an excellent excursion! I booked it for a friend and myself, and since it was just the two of us, we had more opportunity to explore and customize the experience to our liking. Our transportation to and from the resort was smooth, with clean and well-maintained vehicles. I would absolutely recommend this experience and participate again. The total time from the hotel to the excursion and back was around 3.5 hours. The staff were very kind, patient, and accommodating.
