A day trip to Cayo Arena from Puerto Plata, featuring clear waters and white sands for relaxation and snorkeling opportunities.
This day trip takes you to Cayo Arena, also known as Cayo Paraiso, a coral island northwest of the Dominican Republic and accessible from Puerto Plata. You'll find yourself surrounded by turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, ideal for a day of sunbathing and swimming.
The excursion typically includes transportation from your Puerto Plata hotel and provides a chance to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters, where visibility is excellent for observing marine life. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and your swim gear to fully enjoy this tropical escape.

The bus ride may be lengthy, but it's absolutely worth it. The island is stunning, featuring crystal-clear waters and great snorkeling. Opting for VIP was a good choice, as we enjoyed food and drinks on the catamaran. This is a must-visit if you're in the Puerto Plata area.
We participated in the VIP snorkeling adventure that included bus transfers to the marina, a yacht to the island, snacks, an open bar on the boat, time on the island, a mangrove boat ride, and lunch. While we appreciated the experience, the transportation was challenging. If you are prone to motion sickness, I would recommend considering another trip. Both my son and I needed Dramamine for the return journey. The bus ride takes about an hour and a half, followed by approximately 90 minutes on the island, and lunch was served around 2 PM. The island was stunning, but I don't think we would choose this excursion again.
Our visit to Paradise Island was wonderful. The location is beautiful, and snorkeling was a blast. We opted for the standard tour rather than the VIP option and found it to be excellent.
It was incredibly beautiful, with some of the most stunning water I've ever encountered. A delicious lunch was provided along with fruit snacks and plenty of drinks. I highly recommend this trip.
The bus ride from Puerto Plata is lengthy, but completely worthwhile. The snorkeling is amazing, with a stunning reef and beautiful fish that gather to feed on bananas. We noticed sea urchins further out along the reef. We visited the island on a Tuesday, but the day before, there were reportedly hundreds of people from cruise ships. It might be beneficial to ask your provider about planning your visit to avoid those crowds, as they could diminish the experience. I brought my own snorkeling gear, along with my family, so I'm not sure if any equipment is provided.
This was truly one of the best experiences I've had! Julio and Roberto were fantastic, making the trip enjoyable while ensuring we were comfortable. We gained a lot of historical knowledge too. The water was incredibly clear and blue, and the food was fresh and tasty. I would rate this a perfect 10 out of 10 and would definitely do it again!
Julio was a fantastic tour guide, being both friendly and approachable. Initially, we were concerned about the two-hour travel to the island, but he made the journey enjoyable by sharing fascinating historical insights. We felt very secure with both him and Manuel during the trip. The boat experience was wonderful, featuring attentive staff and delicious food prepared with fresh fruit. We had a great time snorkeling and capturing photos. Julio and Manuel ensured we stayed on track with our schedule. I highly recommend going on a trip with them as your guides. Thank you once more!
We arranged this excursion during our Celebrity Cruise stop in Puerto Plata. The scenic bus ride to the boat featured Santarino, who shared numerous interesting facts about the Dominican Republic. Upon reaching the beach, we boarded the catamaran to the island, enjoying fresh fruit, rum punch, and lively music. The island was breathtaking, and we had snorkeling gear to witness the vibrant wildlife. We captured beautiful photos and interacted with incredibly friendly locals and fellow cruise passengers. After our time on the island, we enjoyed a delightful lunch crafted by welcoming locals at the waterfront resort. Manny, our bus driver, was efficient and sociable, while Santarino was also very friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. If you want a journey that feels unique and authentic, this is the experience for you.
The operator cancelled our tour just 12 hours prior, and I still haven't received a refund. We were really excited about this trip, especially since we enjoyed it so much 20 years ago. It's disappointing that it was cancelled.
The experience was terrible. The tour was cancelled at the last minute and I was only informed after I inquired about it. I will not book with them again.
