The trip along the stunning coastline on a spacious catamaran was quite enjoyable. Snorkeling in Sosúa Bay took place at two spots teeming with vibrant fish and coral. The crew fed fish bananas and bread, drawing them closer. However, we were disappointed with the short snorkeling duration of around 25 minutes at each site. The presence of other boats and snorkelers made the experience feel crowded, detracting from the tranquility as loud music and people occupied the water. While the crew was friendly and enthusiastic, their attempts to boost energy at times felt excessive, lacking focus on snorkeling. We would have appreciated having a crew member knowledgeable about the area's biodiversity. The fish were beautiful, and visibility was excellent that day. To our surprise, after snorkeling, we traveled to the far side of the island, extending the boat ride by two hours. Seating was limited, and shade was scarce, making it uncomfortable. The food did not reflect authentic Dominican flavors and catered more to American preferences, while many guests seemed more interested in the unlimited alcohol. This ultimately turned our trip into a party vibe. After two hours, we arrived at Ocean World Marina, where we faced some confusion regarding transport, which was included. Ending the day on a crowded, hot bus for over an hour was a disappointing finish, especially since we could have concluded our outing in Sosúa Bay where we initially started.
Enjoyable experience with a great crew, offering good value for families. The snorkeling was average, and the food didn't impress. The free bar was available only after snorkeling.
I was disappointed with this excursion. The two snorkeling spots were very similar, with only about four types of fish to see. After an uninspiring lunch, we spent almost three hours sailing without much to do. It felt like a waste of time, and I wouldn't recommend it given the cost.
What a fantastic way to enjoy a day on the water with snorkeling and swimming. The guide was excellent, and the food and drinks were wonderful.
It was a wonderful day filled with fun. The scenery was stunning, the crew was warm and welcoming, the food was delicious, and the drinks were crafted with care. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The boat day was incredibly enjoyable. The atmosphere is very social and lively with many people onboard, leading to shared tables and communal spaces, which enhances the experience if you're open to it. The crew truly made the trip enjoyable. They were entertaining, interactive, and great at involving everyone in activities like dancing and laughing. Special thanks to Benjamin and Mawii, the photographer, who really contributed to the enjoyable atmosphere. The day began with two snorkeling stops. You can choose to fully snorkel with the provided equipment, swim around, or stay on the boat if you prefer. My friends and I opted to swim, which suited us well. Life jackets are mandatory in the water but not needed while on the boat. Following the snorkeling, we enjoyed an open bar while cruising and dining. The buffet offered many choices and generous portions, so you can take as much as you want. A few practical tips: - There are bathrooms available on the boat. - Be sure to bring sunscreen and a towel. - It's wise to take motion sickness medication beforehand—this is crucial. Even experienced boaters might find the waves challenging. Although I grew up on boats in Florida and took Bonine as a precaution, many others on the boat suffered from seasickness. The crew provided assistance with cold cloths, crackers, and water, but prevention is definitely better. Bonine is a good option since it has minimal side effects. Overall, I highly recommend this experience. It's energetic, social, and a fantastic way to spend a day on the water.
We had a fantastic time on the boat. The food was delicious, and the crew was very friendly. Our family had a blast snorkeling, and the catamaran had plenty of room for everyone. The nets were perfect for sunbathing while enjoying the cruise. We would certainly book this again.
I had an incredible time on this excursion. As a first-time snorkeler, I felt completely safe thanks to the attentive crew who guided me through the process. They supplied all the snorkeling equipment and life vests while I only needed to bring a towel, sunscreen, and any extra snacks. We visited two snorkeling locations and enjoyed lunch after our time in the water. The return sail to Puerto Plata took around two hours. I had so much fun that I would certainly participate again.
Avoid this tour at all costs. It was overcrowded and dangerous. On April 11, the seas were extremely rough, causing many passengers to be sick. We were taken from a beach in a small boat to the catamaran, risking injury as we boarded in choppy waters. I even noticed multiple small holes in one pontoon, which raised safety concerns. After just half an hour, we had to leave the tour as several people became ill, and there was no place to sit. Our friends were taken back on a small inflatable boat and unceremoniously dumped on the beach amidst large waves, despite not being able to swim. The tour didn’t return after our experience for an entire week due to bad weather. When we spoke with the local representative, they informed us that the only compensation offered by Tip Top Catamaran was a 20% refund, which isn’t acceptable. They insisted there was nothing wrong with the trip. The operator seems more focused on their commissions than on passenger safety. Please reconsider if you want to protect your money and well-being.
Snorkeling among the tropical fish was a bucket list item for me, so I was excited for this excursion. It turned out to be a fantastic experience with excellent guides and entertainment. Although the boat was quite crowded and the bus ride felt cramped and uncomfortable, everything else was wonderful.
