Three to four hours by car — explore Birmingham’s iconic landmarks and Civil Rights sites with a local guide, featuring stops at Vulcan Park and the Civil Rights District.
This guided driving tour of Birmingham lasts between three and four hours, showcasing the city's key landmarks alongside lesser-known local spots. The journey starts at Vulcan Park, where you'll see the world's largest cast-iron statue, before heading to Arlington House, the only remaining plantation home in Birmingham.
The itinerary includes the Alabama and Lyric Theatres, and a visit to the Civil Rights District, where you'll stop at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church and Kelly Ingram Park. Along the way, your guide shares narratives about Birmingham's industrial past, sports history at Rickwood Field, and introduces you to local food stops. The tour allows for some customization, letting you focus on themes like civil rights, architecture, or cuisine.
Reviews
Learning about Birmingham through this tour was fantastic. David, our guide, was excellent and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour, which offers a little bit of everything, and David is flexible if you wish to explore other areas.
Our experience was fantastic! We gained a lot of knowledge, and our guide made the tour enjoyable and engaging. His expertise and personal stories truly animated the experience.
David, our guide, provided my wife and me with an excellent tour of Birmingham that lasted about 4 hours. As we were scheduled for the Sloss Iron Mill Tour the next day, he substituted that portion with other fascinating sights. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of Birmingham's history.
We thoroughly enjoyed this private tour and would highly recommend it. David was outstanding; he reached out to notify us of his arrival and was dressed appropriately for the chilly weather, providing insight about Birmingham during our drive.
I was excited to see Birmingham, but the tour was disappointing. David spent the whole time criticizing the locations we visited. It seemed like he doesn't appreciate anything about the city. His behavior felt homophobic, and he tended to mansplain throughout the tour. I cannot recommend this experience.
This was the most outstanding tour we've experienced, and we've done many. David was incredibly knowledgeable, clearly passionate about the city, and eager to share his insights. I highly recommend this tour!
The guide shared a wealth of fascinating historical insights, and we both came away having learned a great deal.
The tour guide had a deep understanding of Birmingham's history and attractions, and he was very accommodating. Unfortunately, the vehicle had a strong smell of smoke.
The experience was fantastic and highly enjoyable. I found the guide to be extremely knowledgeable, and overall, it was a wonderful time filled with fun.
I made a reservation and paid in advance to secure my place on the tour. When I called the number for the guide, I discovered they weren't scheduled for any tour. We arrived, but the tour did not take place. The guide promised a refund, which I still have not received. I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge, but they haven't received any response either. A week later, another guide reached out to confirm a tour that was apparently not planned.
