• Pickup will take place from your hotel in Bhopal, followed by a drive to Sanchi, located in Madhya Pradesh. You will visit the Great Stupa, a significant hemispherical structure that houses the Buddha's relics. Commissioned in the 3rd century B.C. by Emperor Ashoka, who was moved by the toll of his military campaigns and sought comfort in Buddhism, this Stupa was constructed to safeguard and disseminate Buddhist teachings. The dome rises to a height of 54 feet and is encircled by a stone balustrade. Four decorative gateways, oriented toward the cardinal directions, grant access to the central dome. A prominent sandstone pillar within the complex features the edict of Emperor Ashoka, inscribed in ancient Brahmi script. Following your visit to the Stupa, there will be a break for lunch (at your own expense) at a local eatery. • Afterward, proceed to the nearby Udayeshwara temple. This 11th-century temple, honoring the Hindu deity Shiva, is constructed from sandstone and surrounded by a low compound wall, which is elaborately adorned. Intricate carvings are also visible on the temple's main platform. Two inscriptions on the temple commemorate its construction during the reign of Paramara King Udayaditya, dated between 1059 and 1080 A.D. At the conclusion of the tour, you will be returned to Bhopal and dropped off at your hotel.
