What's the itinerary?+
• 8:30 AM — Pickup from hotel Your guide meets the group at your hotel in Beirut and travels east on the Damascus highway, crossing the Lebanese mountains and descending into the Bekaa Valley. Anjar is located about an hour away. • Anjar — the Umayyad city often overlooked Constructed in the early 8th century by Caliph Walid I, who also commissioned the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, this city was abandoned just a few decades later and was never reinhabited. Its colonnaded streets, a palace with over 40 towers, a mosque, and bathhouses are all still present, representing the only complete Umayyad palatial city remaining in the Levant, making it a significant but underrated archaeological site in the Middle East. Many tour groups overlook it, but your guide will explain the reasons for its importance. • Stone of the Pregnant Woman — measuring before the temples This limestone block measures 21 meters in length and weighs 1,000 tonnes. Cut 2,000 years ago, it remains in the quarry where it was left. Your guide will discuss its historical relevance and how being beside it helps redefine your expectations for the nearby temple complex just five minutes away. • Baalbek Temple Complex — insights from your guide The Temple of Jupiter, constructed on Trilithon stones each exceeding 800 tonnes, represents the largest dressed stones ever built. The Temple of Bacchus, larger than the Parthenon and remarkably well-preserved, is the best-preserved Roman temple globally. The Temple of Venus completes a complex that required three centuries for construction. Without a guide, the vastness of Baalbek can be intimidating, but with a knowledgeable guide, it transforms into a site you will remember. They will explain the architectural, religious, and historical aspects of Baalbek, making every column and courtyard meaningful. • Lunch in Zahle or Baalbek — included Enjoy traditional Lebanese mezze and grilled meats either in Baalbek or at the riverside restaurant terraces in Zahle, celebrated as Lebanon's top food destination, based on the timing and preference of the group. This meal is fully included. • Chateau Ksara — exploring the Roman caves of Lebanon's oldest winery Established by Jesuit monks in 1857, Chateau Ksara features over 2 kilometers of Roman cave cellars, reflecting the same Roman civilization reviewed earlier at Baalbek, now hosting wine aging. The tour of the caves takes place first, showcasing ancient tunnels that maintain a consistent temperature throughout the year, followed by a tasting of Ksara's Cabernet-Syrah blends, Blanc de Blancs, and Sunset Rosé. Your guide will link the histories of Baalbek and Ksara, creating a seamless transition in your day. • Return to Beirut — approximately 6:00–7:00 PM Transfer back to your hotel in Beirut. You will have explored a ghost town, some of the greatest Roman temples in the world, and ancient wine caves, effectively experiencing the highlights of the Bekaa Valley.
