I highly recommend taking a trip to Sigiriya Fort and Dambulla Rock Temple. We arranged everything in advance through Bentota Travel Mart, which covered all entrance fees, guides, and lunch. Ishan was our driver and navigated us safely while sharing interesting information along the way. Having a guide at Sigiriya Fort is essential, as you won't fully appreciate the site just by climbing it alone. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided thorough explanations. Keep in mind that there are many steps to ascend. For the Dambulla Rock Temple, we also had a guide who helped us understand the history of the sculptures and various rooms. I strongly advise using Bentota Travel Mart for your excursions.
Our group of five had an unforgettable experience during what we called the "wow" tour, named for the number of times we exclaimed "wow" throughout the day. Sakun was exceptional in organizing a fantastic itinerary. Despite being on a tight schedule due to our cruise, Sakun and our excellent driver Kalu managed to fit in visits to Sigiriya, Dambulla, and a village tour, all while ensuring we returned with time to spare. Sakun was thorough and adaptable, even sending me pictures of the car and driver in advance. The guides at Sigiriya and Dambulla were well-informed, and the village experience was a standout, featuring a lovely boat ride, a private cooking session where we made Okra curry, and a tasty lunch. Kalu expertly navigated the unpredictable roads, and the icing on the cake was spotting elephants by the roadside on our way back. Kalu graciously stopped so we could take numerous photos.
For those with strong legs and sturdy knees, this climb is a must. The experience of climbing the rocks is enjoyable, and the craftsmanship from previous centuries is remarkable. I recommend doing it in the evening to take in the stunning sunset and breathtaking views.

The costs are excessively high, as they charge double the standard entry fee. While the ticket for Sigiriya is $36, they mark up prices significantly under the guise of all-inclusive packages. Avoid this pitfall.
This experience was highly enjoyable. Our hotel pick-up in Kalutara was prompt, and we traveled in a comfortable Toyota Camry stocked with plenty of bottled water and available umbrellas. The driver was very courteous, holding doors, smiling, and adjusting the AC as needed. We had guides waiting for us at Sigiriya and Dambulla, which felt like a privilege compared to the majority of other tourists without such assistance. The driver kindly escorted us to the Dambulla temple, helping with umbrellas and taking photos, and he even made stops at supermarkets and ATMs when necessary. The tour included entrance tickets and guide fees, plus we were offered a complimentary lunch, which we chose to skip to eat at our resort. This tour felt authentic, professional, and not at all a scam. Additionally, we appreciated being allowed to change our tour date for free, despite the official policy not permitting it.

My day trip to Sigiriya and Dambulla organized by Bentota travel mart was enjoyable. Lahiru was our driver, and the company communicated effectively before and throughout the trip. We started at 4:30 AM and reached Sigiriya by 7:30 AM, returning to my hotel around 4 PM. The guides at both locations had stronger English skills than the driver, but all were very helpful. I strongly recommend visiting Sigiriya during your time in Sri Lanka. The lunch buffet offered was average at best.
I had a fantastic experience with Nelum, who was not only fun but also highly knowledgeable and acted as our personal photographer. The entire experience was incredible and truly unforgettable.
