Dave offers an outstanding perspective on Bar Harbor’s history, combined with a wonderful array of delicious snacks. You’ll stroll approximately two miles at a comfortable pace, visiting various local attractions. Enjoy Maine's iconic doughnuts, crab cakes, clam chowder, lobster rolls, and ice cream. This is an excellent introduction to Bar Harbor.
Having taken food tours in other locations, we were eager to experience one in Bar Harbor. Unfortunately, the overall experience was lackluster, even though the food itself was good. The guide, David, while friendly, focused more on the town's architectural history instead of the culinary aspects. He did not introduce himself beyond his name and didn't share his background or connection to the area. There was no inquiry about the group's origins either. Although he was well-versed in town history, it felt more suitable for a different type of tour. The first food item, a blueberry scone, was served almost 45 minutes into the tour at a beautiful ocean spot, but we received no information about its origin or the significance of wild blueberries in Maine. Instead, we heard more historical details during our walk. Our second stop featured a flavorful crab cake at a local restaurant, yet there was no commentary regarding the food, such as the use of fresh local crabmeat or common crab varieties caught in traps. There were also uncomfortable silences at various food stops. The mini lobster roll was enjoyable, but the setting was subpar, resembling a local dive bar. The vinegar tasting at Fiore seemed unnecessary since the products were all imported from Italy, and there was no background provided on whether it was locally owned. The clam chowder was good and served at a pleasant location, where David did point out the differences between New England and Manhattan styles. Finally, the ice cream at Mt. Dessert was delightful, but again, no one mentioned its local production; this information was only revealed by a participant asking the server. Considering the cost of $322 plus a tip, we felt more critical of the experience. There is potential for improvement, but it needs some adjustments.
The tour explored various parts of town, and even though it wasn't our first time visiting, we discovered new areas. We enjoyed tasty food while learning about Bar Harbor. We plan to return to the restaurants we sampled. Additionally, we'll revisit the Shore Path. Our guide, David, provided insightful information and helpful recommendations for activities and places to visit.
This tour was truly excellent and worth every penny. You will appreciate both the sights that the guide shows you and the delicious food. Our guide, Claire Daniel, led a small group of just six, allowing for clear communication, and the service at each restaurant was outstanding.
The history and delightful food experiences that David shared were truly enjoyable. Experiencing the city from a fresh perspective was great. We had multiple lobster rolls during our trip, but the one he introduced us to was the best.
The experience was average. While some of the food was enjoyable, there were others that were not. The guide, Anne, often focused on her own stories, which became irritating. A bit of silence during meal times would have been appreciated.
We had a wonderful culinary walking tour of Bar Harbor led by Anne. Along with delicious food, like a lobster roll, we received an excellent overview of the town’s history. Anne was very pleasant and knowledgeable, guiding us to some captivating locations. I strongly recommend touring with her.
This tour was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to others. David was an excellent guide, providing interesting historical insights about the area along with the tour.
Charlie served as an excellent guide, full of knowledge about Bar Harbor's history and eager to share it. The tastings were delightful and perfectly portioned. I would highly suggest this tour.
Charlie was friendly and well-informed, choosing an excellent range of fantastic food and sharing great insights about the local history.
